Rumours & Offseason Nonsense 2023/24

I’m afraid I agree he doesn’t look the answer to me. Bowns and Booth would be nowhere near as accomplished a tandem as Besko and Whistle and would have potentially even lost ground with Kozun leaving. In Kansas City he hardly jumped in front of Shane Starrett who was pretty average for Clan when here.

Now if the rumour has the wrong Booth and we’re talking to David Booth instead.

I would gamble just for his size 6 ft 4 . That's without skates, could turn out a gem, nobody knew carruth when he got here but wow he was the best for the devils since oesar, just a shame he had a screw loose apparently and had to go.

Good tandem but whistle isn’t great. He can’t get a starting roll in the league.

When I saw the rumour last night and checked out his stats my first thoughts were “Wow! This guy looks amazing and I’d be surprised if we did actually sign him. It would be the best pairing in league if alongside Bowns”.

Besko is the benchmark so if we compare him against him:
Exact same number of ECHL games. Exact same GAA. Besko has a fractionally better save % but Booth has a fractionally better win percentage.
AHL. Besko played more games in the AHL than Booth but Booth actually has a much better GAA and slightly better save percentage. I wonder how much the Covid affected seasons hit Booth’s career. In those two season restricted by COVID Booth played just 13 games followed by 2.

From what I can work out, Starett was signed on an ECHL contract by Kansas City whilst Booth was signed on an AHL contract by Coachella Valley. Booth then got a brief NHL try out contract with Seattle Kraken before returning to the AHL.

It looks like Booth played a couple of AHL games in October before the Kraken sent down a couple of their netminders to the AHL. As a result in mid November Booth was sent down to the ECHL to get some game time. Initially he didn’t, not playing a game until December but then played 8 games in a row in January. I can’t work out if he then returned to the AHL but at the start of Feb he switched to the DEL with Frankfurt.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the number of games he and Starett played when they were there for different reasons and different periods of time.

Im gobsmacked you think we’d have lost ground if we replace Kozun with Booth.

New interview on the Devils website with Pete Russell and Euan King. Hope they do more of these through the summer as I find them fascinating.

From what PR says it sounds like the roster is already complete.

The sooner their on the ice training the better, personally I’d prefer a full early roster announcement and get a month more drilling, takes away the slow starts and bank some needed points early than playing catch up down the line. What do l know though, wasting an extra month of wages for nothing……

While Mac might seem slightly intense when he's on the ice I don't think accusing him of having a screw loose is fair, you can't compare passion and desire to win to having a screw loose.

And had to go? That's far off the mark.

Like Wally asked him on his pod cast, did he jump or was he pushed..

Pushed.

And not for the reasons you think either.

Well two little things to take from the interview video. Our goalie and 3rd line centre will be bigger guys, the centre also being a face off specialist.

Booth certainly fits the bill for big body. Noticed that he also has a UK passport so will make it easier/cheaper visa wise. I think he will be very good at this level and could probably play at a higher standard. But having been bounced around NA all of his career without playing much maybe he's looking for some stability and consistency where he's guaranteed 30+ games a year.

My guess is that you’re right. In that you know so little.
Player contracts don’t start until they arrive in the country for pre-season training. So there is no wasting an extra month of wages for nothing like you claim.

One of the other interesting comments from the interview was that he is going to change completely our defensive style. No more sitting off the other team and hoping they’ll make a mistake. Which I noticed a lot last year - especially against Belfast. We’ll be aggressively trying to get the puck off them as quickly as possible.

He admits this won’t be any easy or quick change. So it certainly backs up the idea that it was Russell who wanted the long pre-season.
