the tv licence principally covers not only bbc programmes but those on itv channels 4 5 and S4C. most of which are sponsored as welll. Broadcasting is not just via television, it is by other means of media too including .online streaming does not require broadcast authorisation as it is internet based, which by definition doesnt make it by, definition illegal to watch it, unless it contravenes obscenity laws ie pornography. I am not condoning the availability of such material which is offensive to me by its nature.

LETS AGREE TO DISAGREE ON THIS and move and get this thread back on topic.

i will do Finny but having legal background, nore than the average general interest, and also having undertaken a media studies course, which included a module on the Internet and its potential usage i am fairly sure of any legal obligations and or restrictions.

I'd take an interest in copyright, Russky. The legality of streaming isn't the main issue its the rights that the sport your watching has as an image and product.

In streaming and downloading things from the internet, both you and the person providing the stream are breaching copyright. Copyright law may be complicated but ISPs have made this point clear over the last few years. It is illegal and people have been prosecuted for doing so (I remember a couple of years ago an elderly couple got prosecuted because their grandson was illegally streaming).

so how come streaming companies arent shut down as soon as they start streaming!!! they are the ones breaking the copyright so how is streaming possible iif its such a copyright breaker? surely the ones who should be busted are the stream provders not the recipients!

Just because the one you use hasnt been shut down it doesn't mean that others aren't. One of the biggest Wiziwig was shut down recently and a quick google suggests over half a million were shut down last year.

It's no different to if you were caught watching pirate DVDs, the argument that you didn't make them doesn't stand. Or using a stolen TV, just because you didn't steal it doesn't make it right.

Doesn't it technically put you in receipt of stolen property?

In no way different to downloading music and movies really. Just defrauding sports teams that rely on tv rights as key revenue.

Didn't the RIAA try to sue limewire for 72 trillion? And downloaders were implicated in various lawsuits.

Plus I'm not sure your tv license covers feeds meant for the UAE.

just to clarify:

1 I have never specifically named the website i am using so therefore i cannot be accused of recommending others to use it too.

2 I dont record or store the streamed items for later viewing, so i am not infringing any copyright there either.

3 The streamed subject matter is for my viewing and enjoyment only.

4 Its NOT any kind pornography, it is merely sports event material that is available elsewhere on the internet or via a subscription service.

ha ha ha! no such conspiracy. Those that know me among the Devils fanbase will know me as Russky, which is not a million miles away from my actual name. I'm sure that razor sharp brain can work out what that is!

I wouldn't worry Russky. Streaming a bit of sport or a film or three is hardly crime of the decade.
I see things far worse being done by far more people, most days. i.e. texting/talking on mobile phone whilst driving. Man that boils my piss. Even saw a woman the other day staring into her rearview mirror to tidy her hair-do. Whilst driving down a main road.
No wonder there's accidents.
