Don't hold your breath on this one, it's a highlight program, so footage will be supplied from clubs, and the quality will vary immensely from excellent e.g. Cardiff, to pretty average from others. It will be a carbon copy of the highlights program that was on Premier Sports, and funny enough Televideo is producing it, Sheffield based who also produced the Premier Sports one. I know people will say it's better than nothing, but Black talks about sponsorship and I can't see this adventure helping one bit. Great shame that the greatest sport on the planet gets overlooked by the big tv players, how I envy Canada when it comes to common sense.

set it to record as I am out at the time it is on. Despite early teething problems I reckon icetime tv provide the best quality of webcast and highlights in the league, not that I am biased, although somebody is bound to disagree with me.

I see it was Sheffield on twitter that said a announcement was due at 3 today. Alot of other teams fans seem to like icetime looking at twitter they always have good reviews

It's on Thurs, Fri, and Sat, three times as most decent programs are, sorry Russ you might have to stay out to avoid it. Only joking honestly, hopefully it will have me with egg on my face, we will see.

I'm getting frustrated as I seem to be constantly negative towards things but that's because I am more passionate about the club and the league.

Just listened to the podcast about the free to air channel. He either isn't confident about the whole decision and was chosen to speak about it or this is the general feeling.

What I am hearing is that the live game are not the focus but the league has some good content to hook people into the sport. He does not have any plans for Nott and Braehead to have live webcast either. He does honestly believe that his nott tv YouTube is the main focus and a really good feature but for me this is just side content and post/pre game viewing. I don't get exited about football or rugby by watching the player interviews and then not watch the actual sport.

I think it's very narrow minded and they are stuck in the past slightly trying so hard to get free to air channels that they are potentially overlooking something obvious. I think stats prove that live tv is a thing of the past and it's proven with how well Netflix etc have taken off.

If webcast were cheap enough or a free webcast from each club a month was provided this could potentially attract a fan to come to a local rink and then start buying webcasts etc.

The only reason free to air has been able to happen is because the new company has taken a punt on us.

Would be nice to be proved wrong and before I listened to the podcast it sounded as if it wouldn't be just on tv but online too which is great untilll Neil back strated talking about the priority of his own webcasts. But hey what do I know.

I'm pretty sure 24/7.tv were producing the premier sports one. Televideo haven't been involved since the league left Sky I believe.

In my Sky search it's 6pm on Thursday & 3am & 9am on Saturday, not quite prime time viewing lol!

If this is the best the league can do we are in a very bad place.

No one is going to flick through that channel and stumble on it. The viewing levels are terrible and it's a very amateur broadcaster.

In addition there is nothing to be excited about for current fans. Highlights are available from teams within a day or two online so why would anyone hold out until 5 days after a game.

That podcast proves how out of touch Neil Black is.

Well done Neil Black, the guy who won't even have a webcast at his two teams, this is clutching at straws and makes made in Cardiff look good, and how poor and amateurish is that. We would be better off showing our product in Outer Mongolia, at least they only have two channels to chose from. So we know the score, we have watched the highlights on the internet, but can't wait to get home and watch it all again on a Mickey Mouse channel. If these geniuses worked for me, I wouldn't pay them in washers.

I will watch it Thursday evening when I get back home. I am just glad its on a so called free to air channel and not on Money grebbing pay tv of Premier Sports or sky sports.

when you think that the league had to pay sky to broadcast hockey highlights and the live coverage of the playoffs rather than demand a fee for the tv rights, it proves the league is still thinking small even back then . In the first season with Premier Sports correct me if I am wrong but there was a weekly live game plus hightlights shown pre live game and during the period breaks of the live broadcast. The second season Premier's interest seem to be on the wane as there was less live games and more highlights until finally last year there was maybe one or two live games aside from the play offs weekend and even the highlights show seemed less regular.

I first remember seeing ice hockey on Grandstand on a Saturday afternoon, B&H Cup, Durham Wasps against I think Nottingham Panthers. I remember seeing it and thinking what a great sport and wondering why it wasn't on more often. Forward a few more years and the Play off Final was featured on BBC Sunday Grandstand. Since those days our only dose of ice hockey on tv would be limited to once every 4 years when the winter Olympics were on. When I saw the BBC cover the Challenge cup Final via its BBC Sport website. last season and I think I remember Seth Bennett saying that the Elite League were looking for a partnership with a free to air broadcaster, I had hopes of something more grandiose with a major terrestrial channel, this is not what I was expecting: ie on a fringe specialist minority sports channel with greyhound racing and world poker Tour.

To me this way undervalueing the product the EIHL is. This deal makes the EIHL look amateurish at best. Neil Black wont have webcasts as he fears that it will adversely affect their attendance at the NIC and Braehead arena. The Cardiff Devils have proved they can have a sell out crowd at the IAW and still have sufficient demand to justify the Icetime tv webcast and the MNL text game coverage such is the popularity and fanbase of the Devils.

I agree with Russky 100% and we share the same memories of TV viewing.

But, and this going to stick in my gullet, Neil Black may have a point re Nottingham.

It is interesting that Steelers will not provide webcast for their home games against Panthers because of commercial outlets in Nottingham pirating the broadcast by not paying commercial fees. If this is the case then it would probably be equally true of Panthers home games. After all which would you prefer - to watch with your mates and a few beers in Legends (or other pubs I guess) or in a souless barn.

Having said that Dundee (if I recall correctly - will find out later when I book their webcast) have found the solution by using geographic restrictions based on IP Adresses.

On Freeview though apparently.
I only have Virgin so won't be able to see it. I have an old free view box gathering dust in the drawer but it's analogue and I don't the analogue ones work anymore. It's a shame but there is no convenient way for me to watch it, I'm sure I'm not unique in that. It's all very well saying x million people can have access to the show if you have to jump through hoops to get it.

It's not on channel 91 on my freeview box but haven't trawled through to see if it's anywhere else, it's only on freeview if you watch a tv that has it.

Its all a bit underwhelming and shows that the people making the decisions at the league need to move along and hand the reigns down to some fresher younger faces that are more in touch with the modern word and technologies and can drive the league forward.

The Internet and on demand TV isn't even the way forward anymore its just what people use. the only time anyone cares about live TV is if your showing a live event. if the league made everyone offer a webcast they could compile a highlights show from them and put it on a on demand service like the BBC. they could also have teams take it in turns to do a free webcast and promote it to get people that are unsure involved.

The league should stop pandering like they are with goal tech you either get the stuff required of you or you don't compete.
