Ben Davies

Another SoG for Ben as Norfolk win their first game of the season (2-0) against Elmira Jackals.

The only other Cardiff born player in top pro hockey in North America, Nathan Walker scored his first goal of the season last night whenhis Hershey Bears beat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 5-3 in the AHL

I said to Ben a long time ago that he is destined for great things and I still genuinely believe that he will go on to succeed. Great to see home grown talent progressing and developing themselves. Fingers Crossed we see him back one day......but........Not just yet Benny Boy........wishing him all the very best in his hockey career.

He will probably do better in N.America than he would've over here in previous years; the sort of player he is would be more appreciated over there. Although the EIHL has added depth to rosters this year might have been different.

Ben is a 3rd line player. That isn't because he is isn't good enough to be on a top line, it's just what he is suited to. He will never get the goals of other British players like a Clarke, Shields or Peacock but has much greater reach in terms of the level he could play at, as a 3rd line high speed and energy player. They couldnt do the job he does and he probably couldnt do what they do either.

A different sort of player, but much like Brine. He made it to very high level without a high point production because he was effective at a particular role. Ben has huge potential, still, because he naturally so quick. Most of his game can still be worked on and coached, but his speed gives him that extra edge.

SPOT ON......However, I do feel when he is further managed/coached he will be able to return to the UK and be a quality points scorer. The one thing Ben does do well is get into position and reads the game well. His passing in particular is one of his strengths as is his speed.

Funny how different people see things as, for me, his passing is a weakness. Primarily because he doesn't pass anywhere near as often as he should. For me his peripheral vision is poor & hence he tries to do everything himself. After he spent the summer with Mac, Blight & Tyson he was more inclined to pass. Within a few weeks back home that had passed. It's the main reason I wouldn't re-sign him.

Agree but suspect it won't happen..... I have a vague memory that Fife says they had first refusal on him if he returned here....

I honestly believe if we had him that would put us in pole position to finally win a league title.I know injuries/suspensions etc affect lines but with S Hotham due back imagine a 4th line of Davies Brine Culligan that would match any 3rd line and be as good as some 2nd lines and would give us 4 lines capable of putting the puck in the net.

Wouldn't that mean less time for CJ and Pigsy? Both who IMHO are playing really well.

It's a catch 22 - Ben is a strong player who would solidify and enhance that line. His skill would enhance this team. But with the probability of CJ and Piggsy facing reduced ice time, how would that sit in the locker room? Devils appear to have a strong team spirit now - they all work together on ice and know their roles, socialise off it. It is as important to have a gelled team relationships as it is the skill to play well and consistently.

Would absolutely love to see Ben ( another home-grown talent) rejoin our team - he belongs here, this is his home. The questions is, does the Club feel it's the right move at the right time?

I just have a feeling he will either go to the Panthers (who are in desperate need of support with injuries, and need to strengthen their Brit pack) or to one of the Scottish teams.

That's me fear I would rather we have him than a rival as if he went to Panthers he may end up there for a long time and he is so adaptable in being able to play PP/PK if need be he adds so much to any squad.
He obviously we start on the 4th and probably no special teams initially but it's down to him to work to get up his ice time up just as it would be up to CJ and Piggot to work harder to get a chance.
If finances/circumstances allow I can't see a valid reason not to snap him up.
He was the best player on the ice when we played the Clan last year that includes the imports.
