Possibly still a good signing nevertheless.

He's an Import... If he wasn't everyone would be after him! We can do better with regard to our Imports imo - Faryna please.

I've said it before, don't let the fact that he's almost an Brit cloud your judgement, ignore who his parents are too as this has no bearing on what you will see on the ice, if your having 14 imports then they won't all be on your top two lines, Liam Stewart is a total team player, you will struggle to find anyone in the league that gives more effort.
I very much doubt we will see him play for us next season and will be gutted to see him go anywhere else in the league.
But.... if he goes to a decent team, he will flourish and grow to be a top import, watching him play was the highlight of my season, he may do the same for you next season, off the ice he's a smashing lad too!

I imagine he's quite a driven lad, proving he can be successful in his own right.

I don't see anything wrong with a Liam Stewart signing as an import. Not every line will have or needs 60 point players. He's a good defensive player who works his bag off, a good PK player and is very quick. Personally I think he adds a little bit more than Brine (who I do rate highly). His attitude is also spot on; he was in an absolutely awful Blaze team but was one of the few players who actually turned up every game. Not an easy thing I imagine.

And let's not kid ourselves, Todd would love the marketing and PR that having Rod's son will bring (whether that's something Liam likes or not).

Not for me thanks, we need to be looking at higher calibre players than Liam Stewart, and that's not knocking everything you say above. Don't see him adding more than Brine to be honest. I watched exactly what Brine contributed at the time Bentivoglio was going through a very poor period and his work rate and attitude was spot on for me, and who knows, maybe Lord is even looking at signing a higher calibre player than Brine for next season, that's the next level we need to be looking at considering our involvement in the CHL comp.

A hint in Lords interview today that there'll be an European player or two in the roster?
I would like to see that personally.

Asselin and Bentivoglio possibly? They're both Europeans aren't they?

The NIHL is on the verge of collapse before it's even started following the rumour that teams are already dropping out.

It looks like the decision of MK and Guildford to join the Elite has resulted in an unbalanced structure for anything below the EIHL.

Lordo looking to use himself as a player next year again which is great news.

I actually thought from the interview "without saying too much" implied they have maybe a couple of EU players already signed? - and i wouldn't call Benti or Asselin european in the sense they were with us last year, maybe we've picked a couple of new ones up already.

Asselin is a very European style player, but still Canadian really but he has an Irish passport.

As far as european players go, I would take a guess at Nathan Perkovic. Great player if we did and there is obviously that link

I wouldn't say it was the decision of MK and the Flames that doomed the EPL, rather it was the collapse of the Phoenix and Tigers that doomed the league.

Admittedly two of the stronger teams leaving only left them with 8, but they could have survived with that if they had sorted their own spending issues out.

I'm not suggesting it as a criticism, but there was never going to be an eight team league unless MK and the Flames were two of the eight.

I can't say i blame the current NIHL teams to be honest - they simply can't compete in a league that is basically the EPL with three less imports.

Thing is, I'd have thought those 2 leaving would give the other owners the shove they needed to get their house in order, reign in spending, reduce the import level to what it was in the 15/16 season.

As it is though, with rumours about the u23 rule being amended in the EIHL maybe this could open the door for the EIHL to push the u23 league again?

It would/could provide a useful stepping stone between the NIHL and EIHL without the EPL/PIHL being sorted?

I wouldn't be upset if we signed Liam Stewart, and I could see why we would look at him. Would be a good replacement for Brine in my opinion even though he would cost a lot more as Brine was ridiculously cheap, I can see Todd being extremely happy to take that hit due to the PR potential.

Another thing is that I haven't heard any Coventry fans say anything bad about him, if anything they have been full of praise and would be gutted to lose him. I get the impression he would run through a brick wall for his team and that his attitude is top notch! (desperate to make something of himself than live off his parents reputation?) Definitely a great motivation to have around and also he's still improving as a player.

As others have said, not every player on the team is going to be a 40 goal sniper and even though he's not classed as a brit, I still think he would be a good signing.

Brine is a PK specialist and was voted as the most defensive forward whilst playing in another league, his face off skills are also very good he was brought in as a role player and Bownsie rates him very highly, to say he is redicously cheap does him a dis-service! he and his wife are really lovely people too.
