I wouldn’t be that fussed on Russell either. He’s done well with GB but he has had Keefe & Corey Neilson as assistants. When he’s been in the EIHL, I’ve found his teams pretty forgettable tbh.

I know Pete’s available now but after what they said with Skalde appointment and the Devils being overwhelmed but quality CV. I think they’ll be better options out there. I know they’re under contract but I’d probably take Stewart or Paul Dixon well before Russell.
Id take Peter Pan over what we have now.

It took the pair of them 53 games to realise the power play they've used all season long didn't work..

I'm all for giving a new rookie coach a chance but there has to be a line drawn and for me it's the fact it took 53 games for him to admit he and Horn got it wrong.
Don’t disagree here. Our special teams was pretty hot under Skalde so it was clear who ran that under that regime. What we don’t know is who takes responsibility for what within the coaching areas. Either way, one has to admit to the other it isn’t working but who knows!

Neilson not for me thank you, Steven Dixon head coach, Stevenson player assistant coach.
Sentiment yes…but inexperience again. Would we accept the same from Dixon, just because he played well for us, as opposed to DuPont who many have made their feelings clear on during his time as a player (albeit injured)?

Yes, Stephen Dixon, a former player who gets it. 2 seasons of success under Andrew Lord and then last season as an Alternate Captain at the the Devils. He gets the Club, gets what's required to be a player here.

Lord had several advantages when he was appointed coach here. He had used his time at Oklahoma to get his coaching qualifications, getting high level training at that AHL club, an affiliate of an NHL team.

At Devils he had excellent support from Jamie Elson as Assistant Coach, a man who has coached at every level in UK ice hockey including being one of the coaches for Team GB U20 with whom he won gold and silver medals.

And Franny also had huge input into recruitment and training sessions, a man who has worked in most aspects of this Club (and a former player), since the dawn of time.

These things allowed Lord to develop knowing he had the support infrastructure there.

He seems to fit the bill in my mind as a very technical coach, I question if he has the kind of fire I'd like from a coach though. I'd feel more confident in his breadth of experience than I ever did about Dupont though, and would be ready to give him a chance.

Dixon as assistant under an experienced head coach, but not as head coach himself. Working for Pete Russell he could provide some fire.

From my understanding Horn is the one who deals with the defence and power plays.

My knowledge is limited here so anyone, please correct me here. Why would you coach something defensive and something offensive? Surely you’d do D and PK for example?
I don't know about specific tactical roles, but iirc part of horn's job was cutting video for review.

Problem is how can you have someone like horn who no disrespect is a failed player tell the likes of Joey Martin how or what to do. He come in and for me we have seen no improvement, PP is/has gotten worse
Although I agree there doesn't seem to have been too much impact since he came in (I was probably expecting more of a step-change improvement in power play and other set plays with the appointment of a specialist coach), it has to be remembered that coaches don't always have to have been (ex) successful athletes in their specialist fields.
Usain Bolt's coach is coming up to his 74th birthday, and he gave up his aspirations of being a professional sprinter when he was 13!!

A lot of the time our only idea for a break out seems to be a stretch pass or putting the puck straight through our own slot. Both options are usually suboptimal. ;-)

There again he was a 2ft 6in dwarf with 4 ft arms that dragged along the floor, plus he was 23 stone and smoked 80 fags a day.

We've had the great CV with Skalde, which didn’t work out (although more to do with him not gelling with Kelman I think) plus the inexperienced rookie duo which has hardly set the league alight this year. I’d prefer that we went with someone more experienced in the ways of the EIHL for next season. Pete Russell, didn’t stay long enough at Clan for me. But I’d happily welcome Danny Stewart or Paul Dixon with open arms. I like the fire in Stewart’s belly and he’s been around the block with a mid budget team and knows the league inside out - and Dixon has shown year on year that he can recruit and coach young, hungry, players who play a fast, physical style of hockey with an aggressive forecheck - just the kind of hockey I like to watch. It’s no coincidence that of all our historic rivalries, the games against Guildford this last few years have been my favourute games to watch.

Not sure how I’d feel about Danny Stewart. But his teams are always very well set up

I missed this Swarley, has he admitted to getting it wrong?

Yeah he actually admitted it in our last league game against blaze and said he needs to look at a plan B lol

I went looking for the interview he gave where he admitted it but it's conveniently been removed off YouTube, twitter and the Devils website lol
