What happens if the IAW keeps selling out?

I clearly haven't measured it but behind both goals seems to have enough room for a balcony like the WNIR and the gantry where the camera is could certainly have a row or two added and/or standing - a lot of wasted space up there.

That would be this area. Again it's not just seating space, you need access, that would have to take into consideration safety requirements.

How is this a alternative, the NIC would have been a alternative ???. The land was limited the cost was limited, how is this a alternative.

It wasn't an answer to your question.

It's a response to Ocko on how a similarly designed arena to ours has a raised tier and the dimensions of steelwork required to support the upper levels and access points

The alternatives, I'm not prepared to elaborate on.

But the money wasn't there.

The arena you linked to was built pre-economic crash. They had money then. We don't now. You can criticise Cardiff Council all you want but I dont remember any other councils building a 3000+ Twin-pad ice facility in the past decade? If it wasn't for the housing the project wouldn't have been profitable enough for Greenbank to build IAW.

Plus, that rink you linked to has two tiers. But the same number of rows?

I'll quote Rodney Berman from an interview he gave in 2010.

"The ice rink was originally part of our plans for a much larger multi-purpose arena but when it became clear this would take longer to deliver the rink in that way, we took the decision to instead progress a stand alone facility".

Oh the irony, that the stand alone took longer to build than the original concepts.

Since you seem to want to compare this similar facility, l only showed it as it has a tier above a similar layout to IAW.

It has 3,500 seat capacity and was €9.5 million + VAT & completed in under 2 yrs. A separate public rink, fully staffed restaurant open daily and attracts non ice events.

Yes it completed pre crisis but Cardiff Council set aside their budget plans pre crisis.

You do have a habit Electro of typing a lot, without actually making a point.
I'm not sure how it's ironic that the stand alone took longer, when the large multi-purpose arena hasn't been built yet.
The only time I can remember Cardiff Council budgeting for an arena was when the bid for a super casino. And then it all fell through.

Finny the Arena that nobody told you about, so it couldn't possibly be true, was scheduled to complete at a date well before the IAW.

Whether it happens or not is another matter but there was something put out by the council asking for bids to build an arena around 10,000 seats to be completed within the next 5(?) years. I would imagine that would be looked at if we keep selling out.

What arena?
Do you have plans for this arena? What was it's capacity? Was it a twin-pad facility?

This is the replacement for the CIA which will eventually be coming down.
