The new year and a New team

Thread starter #1
Now all of this Ragan nonsense has stopped.. I hope. We can get to the good stuff. Who do we want back? For me I want the lines to be
Kurka / A sniper in center/ lord
Quick grity winger/ myers/ a Conboy type character or Colt King :Ninja
Grity bottom line and rotate piggot and CJ into that line

On defence keep marsh and Richie then get some big imposing say at home D-men

What i really want is what Coventry are doing bring in A leader for captain and a gritty team.

Want to see other people’s opinions!
PS Marsh for captain

I think he covered it in the statement "Who do we want BACK? For me I want the lines to be"

Not getting at you phil, but, the majority of poster on here seem to jump on a comment without actually reading it properly.

Its making the Inferno, Infuriating.

Wanting a player back who has said he isn't going to return is pretty pointless though.
It's like listing half the LA Kings team. Not going to happen.

Ignoring the usual suspects moaning about nothing, whilst offering absolutely nothing to a discussion.....

id like to see at least a couple of entertaining physical players, conboy was too loose for my liking but colt king offers lots IMO.
Id take marsh back, as would I take plumpton who was a very game player who just needed more support in his role as a pain in the ass of the opposition! I know leigh salters won't be short of offers but he was a really good player for the panties and would love him in red.
Lord was excellent to watch and put up points to. Id take him every day. Just get some snipers in there and we're done!

Whilst Todd's influence and contacts when it comes to recruitment are well known I think people are kidding themelves that arena team spending is what will happen. We can dream of a multitude of AHL level players coming next season....and we might be very lucky to get one or two...but I think Todd's vision for our Club is very much one of evolution and preparation for our new home.

Expect due diligence and cost conciousness as the team develops. I would love to see the return of a backbone of our core players from last year together with a crop of talented up and coming new faces ( who knows, with an undiscovered gem in there) The Devils might even get to the final stages of a competition next year but I firmly believe now that we will have a tough and entertaining team......and that's what puts bums on seats. Winning fans back is essential.

As soon as the purchase of the club is confirmed I'd love our new owners to confirm the return of Myers and Richardson. If Batch, Piggott and the rest of the Brits who haven't signed elsewhere also returned that would give us a great Brit core.

Import wise, Marsh would be my #1 target to re-sign, let's hope we've been very lucky and he hasn't signed anywhere else yet. I'd also like to see Maxi, Lord and Plumton all return too. That would give us a strong start for Whistle to find some gems and new blood.

I have a feeling in my waters that a large investment company wouldn't just invest in a small hockey club like the Devils as there doesn't appear to be be any profit in it. I think they are doing the double and buying out the rink from Greenbank and run the whole show!

This would be the perfect scenario for us as it would give relatively free use of the ice, releasing monies for other areas of the team.

This is just a gut feeling and not based on any rumour or inside knowledge, however why would Todd go from being a trainee manager at the Odesy to a small non profit making hockey team in little old Cardiff?

Good comment Budgie. I go along with your thoughts. King's outfit may also think that 3000 capacity is a bit on the small side. From the construction side would it be a major issue to increase capacity to say 5K and still keep on schedule?

I see where you are coming from in the two posts previous however I would be amazed if Greenbank wanted to sell, if it was even possible. Remember, the council gave planning for a design, build and operate. There would undoubatdly be obstacles in that sense.

I am also pretty sure any capacity adjustments would be particularly difficult. We are talking about a rink that took bloody ages to get through planning etc, we would have to go through all that again. I would imagine a small amount of standing in a concourse type set up might be possible behind the back row around the perimiter (a long shot in it's own right) which may add a few hundred at most. To increase by two thirds would take a fair bit of additional planning I just cannot see.

I doubt the schedule would be a problem in a building sense as IIRC the completion date was a few months before the season started anyway, it is just the additional things such as planning, design etc that would be the issue and take the time over.

There is no chance in the arena being increased to almost double it's capacity. It would require a complete new set of designs and I'd be surprised if such a building would even fit in the footprint allocated to it.

Purchasing the arena would be a bit of a gamble at this stage for new owners. From a financial and selfish view it would certainly make sense for the club and rink to be owned by the same people. If King does have that sort of money though to purchase it then Greenbank might be interested if it means they can use that money to start on other parts of the development which will make them more profit.

Exciting times for sure, though I'm trying to stay as calm as possible until the purchase it officially completed and we have that fans forum with them.

And this is where I am at the moment also. This is ridiculously exciting news, way beyond what any fans could have dreamed of a few weeks ago but it is important to not get ahead of ourselves. I would prefer to not see drastic spending and huge plans, rather a year of consolidation and a strong first year in the new rink without going crazy. I'm sure Todd already knows this anyway, he's been around the league long enough to know that the current finances here are not great and will take a lot of work before any elaborate plans.

Steve King own's a company who specialise in finance options to businesses, he has known Todd Kelman for 14 yrs, I believe Kelman is more than just a manager.

Not difficult to work out really.

There have been whispers that Ice Hockey & Winter Sports are growing in popularity within the UK, add the current financials of the economy and you have the beginnings of growing profitable investable businesses, looks as if news has filtered across to Canada, Cardiff just happened to be the ripe for development.

Cardiff Devils pretty much developed the sport in the UK, at least its name has always featured, this has been helped by the fan base within the city, along with the cities attractions and position within the UK.

For all Ragans flaws, he was well aware of the potential the Devils possessed, add the cities determination to have an ice rink and winter sports attraction, Ragan knew he would have the perfect turn around should the rumours become true, so purchased the Devils and has been busy trying to look for the perfect exit.

The major let down though was lack of finances, over determination to make the devils a top league side and poor management/people skills, for Ragan this has made it impossible to continue into the new rink, that first few months would have given him the perfect time to sell, but at least this has come early, better for all apart from Ragan I guess.

But at least everything is now turning around.

Careful apparently my comments on the rink are dumb, so any mention of changing the rink is likely to get you ridiculed.

If only people could read between the lines.

Read between what lines chillee? The two lines I can see are:

The rink will be completed summer 2015

And

The rink will be completed summer 2015

So somewhere in between that the only thing I'm reading is the rink will be completed summer 2015. Please tell me where I am wrong. Your posts are boring and of no substance.

OK then.

I'm sure the rink will be completed in Summer 2015 then, lets hope that wasn't written by the same peeps who stated it'd be finished in 2014, 2012 and so on & so on.
