Scots independence

I know they may be considering issues other than ice hockey in the vote, but if there were a Yes vote today, was wondering if it would have any knock-on effects for EIHL? My first thought is no, the EIHL can have who they like in the league I guess, and if they wanted to classify independent Scots as British players (and thus not affect the import) they could presumably just pass a regulation to that effect?
But I saw this thread on the Panther's forum http://thecageforum.proboards.com/thread/16013/scotland and the quote from Jim Anderson of Ice Hockey UK shows there might be some consequences (I liked the response from Scottish Parliament that ice hockey would still be able to take part in the Commonwealth games - doh!). Obviously in the NHL they have Canadian and US teams so in principle there is no issue with working across two countries, but then the NHL has a lot more money. If independence led to increased costs then for a relatively impoverished league the impact could be greater.
And there would be an impact on a GB team I guess?
Of course, could be all irrelevant this time tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone knew of any discussions EIHL had around it?

I read somewhere that it would cost in the region of £300,000 to enter a team for the world championships etc, a figure that is achievable for the UK as a whole but would be impossible for Scotland alone where the turnover per team is around 60-70k per year (all second hand information, from that same thread i think?)

It will be interesting to see what would happen, as there would be no scottish national team, and the likes of Murphy/Garside/Shields etc won't be eligible for the GB team.

Surely they couldn't just pass a regulation making these guys eligible? (Genuine question!)

Ahh you found it, thanks mate!

Taken from the article:

"As a minority sport, ice hockey receives nothing from the UK or Scottish Governments, UK Sport or sportscotland. As a result, Scottish Ice Hockey brings in £60,000 to £80,000 annually from memberships and club affiliations. Should independence occur, IIHF have quoted £300,000 as the minimum that would be required if Scotland was to compete on the world stage."

Thanks James. So would it be the case that the EIHL is relatively unaffected, but that Scotland couldn't afford to enter the World Championships (would England & Wales be able to afford it either without the contribution of the Scottish four?). Or do they need IIHF membership in order to be part of the EIHL?

I'm guessing they would, as there isn't too many leagues in the world where they play in different countries & i'm not sure how they work at all

All null and void now i guess anyhow, as they all put their toys back into a pram and untwisted their knickers.
