PLANET ICE
Thank you for your recent e-mail dated 29 October 2010 regarding the above.
Please forgive the delay in my response.
On the subject of Planet Ice's performance,we have lookedat the number of specific complaints in the Cardiff Ice Rink and there havebeen no more than a handful of formal complaints over the last four years, Given that the building is of a temporary nature, it seems that the building and the operator have performed reasonably well. If you are able to provide spececific instances of failings however,we will always investigate those and take the appropriate action. On the matter of other rinks such as Basingstoke, many of these are older propertiesand whilst Planet Ice acknowledge that there is occasionally downtime due to machanical failures, they maintain that thier record is, in general, good and we have no evidence to the contrary.
You mentioned a specific problem with cancellation of the junior hockey training. On investigation this was explained by the rink manager as human error. A quantity of glycol refrigerant was accidentally released on to the ice. The Planet Ice team on site dealt with the problem and whilst there were some disruption to junior hockey no senior games were postponed. Regrettable though the incidence was, we should accept that occasionally there are failures of this kind and I have no doubt that Planet Ice will take steps to prevent a recurrence.
