Response from my local Councillor

PLANET ICE

Thank you for your recent e-mail dated 29 October 2010 regarding the above.
Please forgive the delay in my response.

On the subject of Planet Ice's performance,we have lookedat the number of specific complaints in the Cardiff Ice Rink and there havebeen no more than a handful of formal complaints over the last four years, Given that the building is of a temporary nature, it seems that the building and the operator have performed reasonably well. If you are able to provide spececific instances of failings however,we will always investigate those and take the appropriate action. On the matter of other rinks such as Basingstoke, many of these are older propertiesand whilst Planet Ice acknowledge that there is occasionally downtime due to machanical failures, they maintain that thier record is, in general, good and we have no evidence to the contrary.

You mentioned a specific problem with cancellation of the junior hockey training. On investigation this was explained by the rink manager as human error. A quantity of glycol refrigerant was accidentally released on to the ice. The Planet Ice team on site dealt with the problem and whilst there were some disruption to junior hockey no senior games were postponed. Regrettable though the incidence was, we should accept that occasionally there are failures of this kind and I have no doubt that Planet Ice will take steps to prevent a recurrence.

Yours Sincerely,

COUNCILLOR NIGEL HOWELLS
EXECUTIVE MEMBER SPORT, LESIURE & CULTURE

I have had a similair reply from Nigel Howells saying that its a temporary building in its 4th year. Most of the problems have been there from day 1, the reason the council haven t had many complaints on record is because they are buried at ISV level. They are all covering each others rear ends for whatever reason. The Council probably because they don t want to admit they made a bad decision, and the ISV people because they advise the Council and the Previous person in charge had a soft spot for PI for whatever reason

Its not the Councillors but the non elected officials that cause most of the problems, but strangely enough they keep their jobs when the Councillors don t get re elected

Off subject but worth a read....Its seems quite common place within Cardiff Council, the council officer below is alleged to have carried out fraud to the total of 3 million, case is still ongoing, but I believe refers to back hander’s, issuing of tenders for financial gain, selling of council goods to contractors.

Cardiff council highways officer suspended in fraud claim
Oct 24 2009 by David James, South Wales Echo

A COUNCIL officer has been suspended following allegations of fraud.

Police have been called in to investigate after a manager in the Cardiff council’s highways department was suspended this week.

Bryan Geeves, the city council’s principal lighting officer who leads the city council’s street lighting team, is understood to have been escorted from the council’s offices.

Mr Geeves has also represented the County Surveyors’ Society Wales on lighting issues.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police confirmed that allegations of fraud had been reported late on Thursday and officers were investigating.

She said: “The matter has been referred to the police and we are looking at it to see if it requires further investigation.”

A spokeswoman for Cardiff Council confirmed that an officer in the highways department had been suspended following serious allegations.

She said: “Following allegations of a serious nature, a member of staff in the highways department has been suspended from duty while investigations are ongoing.

“This is in line with normal council procedures and processes.

“The matter has been referred to the police.

“The council does not intend to make any further statements while the matter remains under investigation.”

3 others have since been linked to this one case alone, plus I believe in recent years Mr R Berman has had few lines in the papers. Thats too common in my book!

Guys, let's be sensible about this, anything you post here is in the public domain and please think before you post anything potentially libellous, we don't particularly want to be spending Christmas fighting off any law suits.

Got to agree with Chris on this one. its not fair to tar everyone with the same brush and I would suggest that every council throughout the country has at some time suffered from fraud and corruption of some kind. I would rather see a more positive slant on things, don't forget, we are trying to get CCC on our side aren't we ?

I'm in the mood to write a letter to your council to let them know what sort of image they are sending to the rest of Wales.

Any ideas who I would be best writing to?

talking of councils,I was one of the unlucky ones to first be given a parking ticket at a previous match.
When I complained I was laughed at by them, they said there was a complaint from the flats down the road, funny how they turn up in a van with 2 or 3 wardens and do their bit to gain extra funds for the council.

I won't believe our new rink will ever be made unless its got lots of backhanders wrapped around it.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

You complained that you were ticketed for parking illegally? And you're surprised they laughed why?

I also complained that i was parked 'illegally' on the 'cycle path' by means of a letter sent recorded delivery.

I then received a letter off the council letting me off the ticket. I won't go into details on a public forum as to why or how but i don't believe the council did it out of generosity despite of their claims. ;)

If you don't ask, You don't get.
