NIHL - 2013/2014 Season

Thread starter #1
Just wondered if there is going to be a NIHL side this year. There was a lot of uncertainty at the start of last season with the team with what appeared from the outside to be the minimum of support in the form of ice time and travel. Despite this Cudds and all the others involved carried on and produced a really good team with I believe 5 "call ups" to the Elite squad perhaps proving what a valuable set up this is.

Any news out there?

I certainly hope so, its the stepping stone to the Elite League team.
And with a large chunk of the very successful U18 team moving up should be competitive with it, problem is we are more or less one of the only teams in that league with no budget so what we achieve each season is fantastic at this level.

Lots of news around on signings for this league.
As Ger-Devils says Ali Band has moved on to London Racers in NIHL 2, Steve Osman our 2nd top scorers has signed for "BIG" budget team Wightlink Raiders and think Steven Fisher may be playing for a London based team after moving for his job?

Hopefully we start to see news on signings and the team very soon :D

Lots of the bid spenders are signing early:

Isle of Wight are pretty much finished signing, including chucking wedges of riches at Ozzy to get him haha.

Romford are out (rink closed) so lots of Romford players moving about mainly to serial spenders Invicta and one or two 3rd liners to Haringey with Bandy.

Chelmsford to will keep the majority of their team as local lads, with a few extras as Gary Clarke likes to build year on year. The main talking point is Danny Hammond not being re-signed. He will turn up somewhere, probably Invicta!

MK are in trouble with their rink closing for refurb, so not sure on them even playing at all. Waiting for news on that.

Streatham will be moving to their new shiny rink in November so will likely attract a few additonal keys players this season to boost them. Rumours of lots but none confirmed yet. Warren Rost (Boooooooo!!) has just been announced as coach again so expect their signings to be coming soon.

Bracknell will sign mainly the same team with Danny Hughes as coach, some confirmed already but the big addition is Brad Watchorn returning after a short spell at Invicta and not playing the end of the season.

Solent and Gosport have managed to escape the drop because Oxford didn't want to come up, so they will stay NIHL1 and have added Murray from Isle of Wight, I would still expect them to be struggling tho unless they can add an import or two of decent standard.

NIIHL1 Devils....no confirmed news yet. It's only June and the majority of the players here are local trained. With the exception of those that have moved up to EIHL I would expect largely the same again this year with maybe a few Cudd surprises ;)

Hopefully some news then soon Arms :?:
This league will be very competitive this year again, heard the MK Thunder is still being discussed and Oxford City Stars maybe forced to take promotion but wont know until later this month after the EIHA meeting?

Lets hope Cudd can retain most of the squad from last season and start to make announcements soon, rumour on the Invicta forum of Vaisenen to Cardiff

Still quiet on the "Cardiff front" but other teams have been busy signing. Romford Raiders have been able to secure a place to skate at Lee Valley. They are now called "London Raiders". They are still a Romford team though and there was some comments made as to the effect upon the newly formed London Racers who are starting in NIHL 2 and whether they should also start in NIHL 2 being a "new team". With Oxford not stepping up and no news concerning Milton Keynes Thunder we do of course need a reasonable amount of teams to play in this league.

Fisher moving to Streatham is more of a lifestyle and locational choice rather than money talking. He has moved up to London with his girlfriend and changed jobs so it makes sense to play somewhere local and make a bit of beer money too.

Scarzy on the other hand was always going to be a tough player to retain, I would suggest almost every team would have wanted him this year and offers were flying about, it seems Streatham have the biggest lure with a new rink, London location and some money to chuck about.

James Warman is also highly likely to pop up in Streatham as he too has moved to London for a work placement following his Uni in Bath.

I'm sure Cudd will pull it all together in time for the season starting though. There is a constant line of great local talent, mixed in with the regular old/young boys. Maybe one or two old/old boys won't be lacing up tho ;) but its still the summer so who knows.
