Personally having played them all since 2009 I'd say 2014 is the one to buy.

How is it shocking? They pretty much stay the same year on year. For me, the game play is better on 15 than 16. If you want to play it online then get the newest version, if not then 14 or 15, doesn't really matter.

I know some people like the physical game but this is always an option for NHL 15 and other EA games.

They offered NHL16 for a trial but hopefully it will come out soon as they have just announced Madden 16.
