My expectations.

At the end of the day I want to be entertained whether we're mid table, near the bottom or near the top, what appears to be a lack of pride in some players performances, it's no shame to lose but to be steamrollered by the Storm tells me there seems to be a problem occurring.

My expectations is not to expect much anymore, then you can not be disappointed. Since xmas we never know what team is likely to turn up. Feel really sorry for the fans that pay their hard earned cash to travel to watch dire performances over and over again.
i went to Ireland to watch both games, too feel totally underwhelmed with how we played and was embarrassing to see players not even try, but that did not deter me from enjoying the experience of Ireland.
would i do another weekend away to Ireland in the future, damn right i will even if the hockey was dire

I’m not getting a season ticket for 25-26 just going to see how it goes. Seen about 15 pitbulls games this year and although the skill level is lower, it’s far more entertaining and exciting to watch. If you like the old Heineken and EIHL era upto about 2016 then you’d enjoy the NIHL.

Vast majority of NIHL teams have had big attendances, sell outs a plenty in Leeds, MK, Bristol and Swindon had their biggest crowd ever! solway had a record attendance last weekend too. It’s a league on the up, one more import per task and it would be perfect.

Standard is decent, lots of players who could still get a game at EIHL level have dropped down and you’ve got the top Brits aka Harewood doing well also.

Seen some highlights of pitbulls v hull it was mental what went on in that game, especially chamberlain, remember him hull stingrays.. it made our games look like non contact, another thing we always had Sheffield number at home with 3 stunning games , why can't we get up for the other games.?

I’m going to Belfast tomorrow with work, will have a good time without any hockey, and fortunately without any disappointment, and no underwhelment of a crap performance.

I only have a few expectations:

1. Play entertaining hockey
2. Work your bollocks off, give 100% and also play with passion and pride each and every game

Not much to ask for…

Agree with you there RedDevil17. I read so much on here with people being misrepresented saying we want fights and that the 'day of the enforcer is gone'. There aren't many, if any asking for that. Yes we may reminisce about those 'good ole days' but fundamentally I think most old timers like myself want exactly what RedDevil17 just wrote and largely, it's the stuff that takes no talent. It's just hard work, effort, sticking up for your team mates.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I don't want a team with Stefan Fournier in it and McNally. They could barely skate and weren't Devils material (bit harsh on McNally). I'd rather a Masi Marjamaki type player (probably a bad comparison) but at least he skated every shift with 100% intensity and effort. Like Brandt used to do, like Davies and Joey do now. Give me those kinds of players over a S.Fournier any day. That passion and pride is what makes it entertaining for me.

The EIHL is in a bit of a weird spot right now. The standard of hockey in the UK is arguably the best it's ever been, moving away from the old-school North American style towards a faster, more skillful game, more in line with what’s played across Europe.

At the top end, it’s brilliant. We’ve seen that in CHL fixtures over the years, and if you watched a game in Germany, Sweden, or Austria, you’d probably walk away with the same buzz fans had during the WNIR and BBT eras. But if you're not seeing that level of hockey every week, the modern game can feel a little flat.

What’s interesting (as has been pointed out already) is that when you drop down to the NIHL/NIHL1, where the overall standard is much lower, the style shifts. The gap in quality is massive, but because the skill level isn't as high, the game leans more towards the physical side, almost by necessity, and despite the skill level being much lower, the games are often more entertaining.

I think what I'm trying to say is, the game is very entertaining at both ends of the 'sliding meter' between low-skill and physical vs skillful and limited physicality, but the middle ground can feel a little uninspired at times, and for me that’s where the EIHL seems to be stuck right now.

Good post. In terms of styles/eras for full on entertainment and an enjoyable all round night out, I’d go for:-

1. Super league era - skill and physicality.
2. Heineken era - less skill but more fun.
3. Elite league to 2019 - skill and physicality.
4. Elite league post Lordo - skill but hardly any physicality and a bit sterile.
