Music Thread

Thread starter #1
Ok so I've been thinking about how I'm too rarely blown away (or even just into) new music I discover (whether recorded decades ago or just released), but I'm hoping that it's just me being lazy and not looking hard enough.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, although I am extremely picky so it might be just me! At first I thought about making this a thread for the muso's amongst us, but then I thought I'd end up missing out on some great 'pop' music and putting people off contributing. As the saying goes...'there's only two types of music...good and bad.'

So here's a thread for anyone who wants to share music you think is worthy of a listen - I would make one caveat that if possible it's kept to tracks you think many people may not have heard - mainly new music I guess, but also older less well known stuff. (Not the top 40 :lol:)

Hopefully plenty of you will humour me on this and we might all discover a track or band to enjoy that we would never have otherwise discovered! :D

It'd also be nice if this thread had a bit of discussion aswell so don't just feel you have to post tracks and that's it.

Ok I'll start us off;

One for the muso's amongt us - although I'd like to think the emotion this band generates means they can appeal to anyone (my favourite band right now - this band is unreal)

Animals as Leaders - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hpeeuIG ... re=related

Oh go on then and another - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xaB6dZE ... re=related

My last one for the muso's (this band has just released its first album and it's a cracker)

Periphery - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux9fwFJ2hVw

Finally, here's a more mainstream track (I heard this on the soundtrack to 500 days of Summer)

Regina Spektor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fczPlmz-Vug

Here's a rising local star really worth a listen to - for those who haven't heard of Jonathan Powell, check out his My Space track player.

He's local with lots of musical influences. Appeared in Central Library lunchtime session in the Spring but he regularly does small British venues and gigs at the Norwegian Church and in town. More famously known for being Charlotte Church's co-writer on her forthcoming album but I was blown away by his voice as he sung a few tracks from his latest, locally produced album 'Forgive This Day'

Watch out - he's going places!
