help required

Hi Guys
I am a newbie to hockey. Could anybody tell me what the A means on the chest of one player. As Voth has a C I figured out the captain title but am a little confused as to the other.

It stands for "Alternate" captain..

Officially it is only the Captain and Alternate's that are allowed to talk to the referee. Of course it's down to a little bit of discretion as to speaking to other players.
