The Invicta Dynamos have today (18th January) received the ruling from the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) with regards to the abandoned clash against the Cardiff ENL Devils at the Silver Blades Ice Rink Gillingham on Saturday 17th December.

Game Outcome

The EIHA have ruled that Cardiff’s refusal to leave the dressing room and play the third period of the tie contravenes International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Rule 567 and that the decision to abandon the tie should only be made by the match referee in this situation. Subsequently, the game has been awarded 5-0 to the Invicta Dynamos. In addition the ENL Devils have been deducted two league points from their ENIHL South Division 1 total and penalised with a suspended fine of £250 that runs until the close of the season.

Crowd Involvement

The EIHA have ruled that the actions of both home supporters and Cardiff players involved in an altercation in and around the visitors’ bench during the second period of the game was unacceptable. Subsequently the Invicta Dynamos have been awarded a £250 fine, payable within 30 days, and received a list of future requirements to prevent a similar situation arising again. With this in mind the club wish to remind all supporters that:

• As already enforced at our most recent home game, certain areas behind the away bench and penalty box will be sectioned off for the safety of both spectators and players alike.
• At no time should spectators attempt to enter into an altercation with players from either side.
• Bottles are not to be taken into the Silver Blades Ice Rink Gillingham.
• Security will be most vigilant at games more likely to create an unacceptable situation.

Disciplinary Action

No further penalties or suspensions have been awarded to the Invicta Dynamos with Ryan Giles, Alastair Band and Grant Baxter having served or still serving the suspensions for the match penalties they each received on Saturday 17th December.
The relevant Cardiff ENL Devils’ player and bench official have each been handed bans deemed appropriate by the EIHA.

Conclusion

The Invicta Dynamos regret the abandonment of the home tie with Cardiff in December and are satisfied to be able to draw a line under the situation and look ahead to the rest of the season. The incidents during the clash with the ENL Devils are isolated and far from the norm and the club remain committed to ensuring ice hockey at the Silver Blades Ice Rink Gillingham is a family friendly environment. During these difficult circumstances we would like to take this opportunity to thank our supporters for their fervent backing and, with their help, we look forward to generating more favourable headlines for both the club and sport itself for the remainder of 2011/12 and beyond.

So and just to make sure I'm reading this bit right

"The EIHA have ruled that Cardiff’s refusal to leave the dressing room and play the third period of the tie contravenes International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Rule 567 and that the decision to abandon the tie should only be made by the match referee in this situation. If the players are concerned about being attacked by the home fans and don't want to come back out the home team gets a 5 - 0 win and the away team also loses an additional 2 points ?

Isnt that sort of madness ? a bit ?

Seems harsh on the Devils if the coach thought the players were in danger. This seems to have been backed up by the fact the EIHA have essentialy told Invicta to sort their barn out to stop it happening again! In addition being penalised twice for the same offence seems unfair.

The EIHA has also ruled the Supporters were in the wrong. So The fans have been ruled to have been out of order, yet the players should have come back out.

Go figure!

a few points to make
1)in all fairness the fans that had caused trouble had left the building and the block around your players cleared then the game had contiuned and there was not an issue apart from cardiff were losing.......

2)there was more issues on the ice then off and it seemed an appropiate excuse to get out of a game they was losing...

3)agree that the 2 point extra deduction is unjust
(hope the player ban is not to harsh)

4) I do not condone the actions of the invicta fan who was involved but think individuals involved from cardiff and invicta over reacted to the situation,
then due to on ice altercations the issues off ice have been over hyped

P.S
Excellent game on Saturday well deserved win

The fans who had caused the trouble had not left the building, they had just been moved to another block.

The fan who threw the bottle was even pointed out by other Invicta fans but the rink staff refused to throw them out.

The fact the EIHA only give the Devils a 2 point deduction (the minimum allowed) suggests they sympathise with the Devils and what happened to them.

Seems a little one sided to me, whilst we have player bans as do Invicta we also have a bench official ban, not sure if Invicta do as well (dont know their officials), I can only presume the match officials report was more damning towards us  . Why? :!: :?:

the match officals report may have been a little one sided as he had to remove the stick from a cardiff indivdual so the fan involved was not struck a third time..

as someone sat in the block that this was started in......... i can can confirm the fans involved had left the building and whent straight to A&E (#Fact) then the game resumed and the next lot of fiascos occured on ice.....

i do sympathise with both sides and feel it has not done either club or the sports reputation any favours.. although it did help the cardiff home game attendance figures ;)

if the EIHA sympathised with you  you would of recieved no points.....

i think they just wanted to get this BIG over hyped incident put to bed :DWD

so hopefully we can all draw a line under it now :D

If one team causes a game to not be completed, the minimum punishment is a two point deduction. They gave the Devils the minimum punishment possible.

They could have given them a far bigger punishment but opted not to. The EIHA had to appear to at least be strong and in control else they would have had other teams stopping games for far less serious incidents.
