Our favourite buddy over on the elite forums just said that a decision is expected to be reached tonight on the bans.

Re: Appeals...

yet another example of elite incompetence - demand a fee to lodge an appeal, and then take the best part of a week to make a decision!

It would have been nice to have known either way, so as to sort out lines, and to train etc. ah well, too much to expect obviously.

The thing is after last week where the two 'power clubs' (sheffield and nottingham) demanded bans for the two teams who allegedly brought much pain to their clubs, they actually have a massive problem now.

Hand on heart every team in the league knows the ban on Voth was vastly over charged. And now after gauging fan reaction and realising after days of deliberation that they have to somehow strike a balance between giving voth some sort of ban to save face. and reducing it to a point that seems in some way fair.

Personally i think they should just do the right thing and give him a match penalty and admit the original excersise was an attempt to scare teams into controlling their players.

One things for sure though the league hasnt made things easy for themselves again.

Re: Appeals...

Doesn't exactly give the Devils much notice for their preparation for this weekend. Why the delay, should have been heard early this week. Incompetent buffoons.

Re: Appeals...

agree with gazza.

let's be honest, if the league halves it we'll be lucky.

they will look even bigger fools than they are already if they back-track too far!

Re: Appeals...

in reality...can you really see them just give him a match penalty?....egg on their faces isnt what i envisage. I reckon they will stick to their guns and ban him, but knock about 6 games off

What a total farce. Can the appeal be escalated to the IIHF or anything ?

anything is possible provided you throw money at it...question is....will Matt be prepared to do that? I'm not suggesting he should, but at what point do you admit to defeat?

Re: Appeals...

If there was ever a need for a real independent committee running the league this is it.
Even if that means paying a bit extra to bring in somebody who has held a senior position in maybe ECHL or similar leagues.

Many leagues around Europe consider Elite as a bit of a mickey mouse league and it can even look bad on a players CV. These kind of ridiculous events can only perpetuate that view, meaning players of a decent calibre will try and avoid us unless theyre at the end of their career.

I totally understand the league has to protect themselves incase somebody in the future was seriously hurt, but the length of this ban and the whole media furore surrounding it suggests the committee is anything but independent.

To the other elite league coaches/owners who felt it necessary to uphold/encourage this ban - short term gain for you is a big long term loss for British Ice hockey. Thank you very much.

The independent appeal review

Mr Thompson calls Mr Hand

Thompson: Hi there Sir Tony just a quick business call
Hand: Hi there Sir Paul fire away
Thompson: This silliness about reducing Vothers ban, I mean are they serious what do they think were gonna say oh yeah let him back sooner so he can lead his team to another thrashing of us, ho ho ho
Hand: Ho ho ho - they are very funny those silly Elite league bosses
Thompson: Do you think we need to call Wilson just to confirm his compliance with our views?
Hand: No Newcastle are playing Cardiff during that ban and we all know how Payette is totally put off his game by Voth - hes bound to agree with us.
Thompson: Well thats sorted then, tough luck Vother ho ho ho.....

.....And the 3 little coaches said ho ho ho aaaaaaalllllll the way home.

Re: Appeals...

That's just proved what a complete and utter farce & joke ELITE hockey is. Can't say I'm surprised at the result though as common sense flew out of the window when the Squealers showed their complete lack of class and tried Voth in the press rather than behind closed doors.

It is a very sad day for British Ice Hockey and just proves what muppets are in control.
