Weekend Preview - Devils Vs Capitals

9th Feb 2012 | Posted by Simon Rafferty

This weekend the Devils face the Edinburgh Capitals home and away (I guess weather allowing) in Elite league action. This will be the fourth and fifth times that the two teams have met this season with the Devils having the best of the meetings to date winning all three.

The Capitals come into the weekend well rested after their game last weekend was cancelled due to the poor weather around Nottingham stopping the Panthers making it up the Capitals still put on a friendly game and a skill competition and took time to announce their second re-signing for next season with Player coach Richard Hartmann already being committed for next season.

The Capitals are announced the signing of forward Rene Jarolin for the 2012/13 season. Rene Jarolin currently is the League's top goal scorer and a big fan favourite in Edinburgh.

Player coach Richard Hartmann said, "Rene is one of the premier players in the League and was my main priority to sign. We want to develop a strong, talented and hardworking squad that enjoys playing for the Capitals and the City." Rene Jarolin

Scott Neil said, "It is great to have Rene back next year and with the addition of Richard Hartmann as player coach we have signed two quality players and people going into the 2012/13 season. They both seem to enjoy the City and playing at the Caps and it is a great platform to be able to build from. Their early signing is a situation that we have not been able to enjoy for many years and we are looking to help provide Richard the best possible resources to develop the team going forward. We are working hard to pull all areas of the team in a united front, from fans, sponsors, players, volunteers and commercial partners. If we all play as a team we can deliver something special."

We took quiet an in-depth look at the Capitals side in December which you can check out here

The Devils had a less than Stellar weekend last weekend with first the announcement that Brad Voth was being forced to retire through injury and then being knocked out of the challenge cup in addition to losing two league games (sorry I can’t think of way to happily spin that – feel free to suggest ways I could said this in a positive way in the game thread).

You can check out the full details of both games and read a tribute to Brad Voth here http://theworldofsportbyateengirl.blogspot.com/

The Devils come into the games short benched with Mark Smith still on the injury list; in addition to this the Devils will be without forward Max Birbraer for the rest of the season and now also face finishing the season without Brad Voth.

I can see this being a tough weekend and the Capitals must fancy their chances of taking some points away from a much depleted Devils side in these games, the Devils need to bounce back and begin building momentum for their playoff run ( I feel dirty just saying it). Short benched the Devils need to play as a team and we need to start seeing the younger guys stepping up and filling in where needed, which I’m sure they can and will.

We will attempt to run the  “Childish and amazingly Biased” Match Night Live service for this game, at the usual location of www.theinferno.co.uk/mnl if you'd like to help out or chip in with some comments on the night please contact us at matchnightlive@gmail.com. You can also follow on Twitter for updates on @InfernoMNL

And you’re looking for somewhere to have a pint and a bite to eat before the game or a few beers afterwards we’d suggest the Pilot in Penarth which is a short trip away and will also be open afterwards for post-match drinks, directions to the pub can be found here - http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/where-to-eatdrink/
