Clan Ball

This weekend see’s the 2nd Meeting between the Devils and the Clan this season with the last meeting seeing the Devils win in overtime. Both teams are on a roll at the minute with the Devils winning their last five matches and the Clan currently sitting second in the league.

We took a quick look at the Clan squad last time they played the Devils which you can still check out here http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/news/inferno-match-preview-devils-vs-clan-200914/

Last weekend saw the Clan take on the Sheffield Steelers in a home double header staring out with a loss on Friday where a no-scoring, but penalty-filled first period saw Clan Dman Zack Fitzgerald make an early exit following a fight with Steelers newest arrival, Bois at the end of the period.

Second period goals from Matthieu Roy and Colton Fretter of the Sheffield Steelers saw them take their two goal lead which was not to be matched.

In spite of thirty shots on goal, the Clan couldn’t get the puck past the Steelers netminder, Doyle.

Sheffield 2 – 0 Braehead

Saturday saw the Clan reverse their fortunes defeating Sheffield Steelers 5-3.

Darrell Hay opened the scoring when he sent his shot into the top shelf for Steelers to take the lead.

But after Clan saw Derek Roehl was given a 2+10 penalty for checking from behind on Colton Fretter, the home side hit back.

A Jamie Fritsch shot allowed Matt Keith to send the puck past impressive Steelers netminder Frank Doyle for the equalise.

The celebrations were short-lived as Rob Dowd finished at the back door for Sheffield to lead 2-1 after two periods.

Braehead drew level again early in the third as Stefan Meyer bundled in from close range followed by Neil Trimm's finish in the powerplay turned the game around.

Derek Roehl made it 4-2 with an exquisite finish with Matt Haywood applying the icing on the cake with a fifth.

Steelers pulled another back through Jay Latulippe, but it didn't make an impact on the final outcome of the game.

Braehead 5 - 3 Sheffield

Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty had this to say after the game:

"Getting a win was massively important for our confidence, especially after what went on in the last couple of games.”

"We had a lot more energy in the third period and once we got that lead, we were able to defend.”

"It was one of the better games I've seen while I've been coach here. Plenty of action and it went end to end.”

"We were back to ourselves more in the third period and the confidence was there, we were attacking in their zone and transitioning with speed.”

"We were pretty short staffed and to come back against a team like that is pleasing for us. We got a big performance from our players when we needed it."

Highlights of this game can be found here http://www.braeheadclan.com/news/796/news-clan-v-steelers-highlights.html

The ones to watch from a scoring point of view for the Clan are.

Neil Trimm 12 Goals 20 Assists

Scott Pitt 15 Goals 15 Assists

Stefan Meyer  15 Goals 8 Assists

In Nets Kyle Jones  is running an impressive 91.2 % Save percentage with a 2.83 Goals against average so far this season. ( Beachball is bigger than puck.. is why joke is)

The Clan will be without banned Zack Fitzgerald (http://www.braeheadclan.com/news/791/news-ban-for-fitzgerald.html ) for this match and will also be down injured Ryan Kavanagh leaving them fairly short on defence.

We will be running the 'ridiculously childish and disgustingly biased' Match Night Live service for this game,as always expect name calling, slurs and bad jokes about keepers not being able to stop beach balls in epic proportions, at the usual location of http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/mnl
