Giants & Harp

Sunday night the Belfast Giants come to town to take on the Devils. This will be the third meeting between the two teams this season with the Giants currently taking the lead with a margin of 2-0 against the Devils. Things have been a little quiet on the Giants front in the last week so this is a shorter than normal preview...apologies.

Last weekend the Giants had a break due having several players and their coach with team GB. Head Coach Doug Christiansen is an assistant coach and a total of 4 players Stephen Murphy, David Phillips, Mark Garside & Craig Peacock as well as Head Equipment Manager Jason Ellery were involved in the team. “It is a tremendous honour to be on the coaching staff of the Great Britain National Team” said Christiansen. “We are all excited to travel to Japan. I know all four Giants will play a crucial role on the team.”

We took a look at the Giants team earlier in the season which you can check out here  http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/news/giants-devils-game-preview/ and if you’re feeling particularly masochistic you can check out our review of the last game here ( Probably best forgotten) http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/news/devils-giants-the-review/

The Giants have scored 10 times against the Devils while conceding only 3 with Adam Keefe and Daymen Rycroft doing the bulk of the damage with 3 apiece. Devils games aside the Giants have a wealth of scoring depth with Andrew Fournier ( 7 Goals, 17 Assists) , Daymen Rycroft ( 8 Goals, 15 Assists) , Noah Clarke(8 Goals, 12 Assists), Robby Sandrock (6 Goals, 13 Assists) , Gregory Stewart (4 Goals, 9 Assists)  and Scott Champagne(3 Goals, 8 Assists)  all providing real scoring threats.

In nets the Giants are back up by Stephen Murphy the number 2 rated net minder in the league who boasts a 91.4% save percentage and a goals against average of just 2.3 .The Devils have managed to beat Murphy just three times so far this season with the scores being Tyson Marsh, Phil Hill and Devin Didiomete.

Saturday see’s the Devils in action in Dundee while the Giants take on the Hull Stingrays providing there are no injuries in either of these games I believe that the Giants will be at full strength while the Devils will still be without forward Max Birbraer still serving his ban after the Coventry game but the Devils  could see the return from injury of defenseman Tyson Marsh (according to the Western mail).

We will be running the “ridiculously childish and disgustingly biased” Match Night Live service for this game, expect name calling and one eyed bias in epic proportions, at the usual location of http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/mnl if you'd like to help out by texting updates (we’d be happy to hear from you) or chip in with some comments on the night please contact us at matchnightlive@gmail.com.
