ENL Weekend Preview 19th & 20th November
The ENL Devils had a very tough game Saturday against league leaders the Chelmsford Chieftains but had enough in the bag to take the win 7-4. This is a big scalp for the boys after coming so close on the two previous occasions. This win was huge boost which the boys needed going into the road trip to Slough on Sunday. With depleted numbers (for many reasons) the boys were just 20 seconds away from a 4 point weekend but Slough managed to tie things up and the game ending 4-4.
Scorers for the Devils last weekend were
Saturday - Jones x3, Piggott, Deacon, Harding, Hayes
Sunday - Piggott x2, Jones, Hayes
We got a few words from Luke Piggott to review the weekend just gone
“Last weekend top of the table Chelmsford Chieftains came to the BBT looking to continue their winning form of this season and we also travelled to the newly promoted Slough. Saturday was a fantastic team performance that saw us battle hard for the full 60 minutes of the game. We knew we could beat this team having already come close twice and we came out flying in 3rd period to convert a 3-3 tie into a 7-4 win. Some great team play made for some nicely worked goals and solid defence ensured we closed the game out for an important 2 points.
Slough on Sunday was a short benched trip where we took just 8 forwards and 4 D. Adam Harding and Louis Lockwood were both out injured, newly acquired Chris Hart’s ITC was not finalised, Jason Stone not being able to travel for family commitments and having lost Lee Duance meant we were all in for a lot of ice time. Despite the short bench it was a bitter disappointment not to come away with a 4 point weekend as very basic errors crept into our game and we literally gifted Slough their 4 goals to match 4 of our own, with them getting the equalising goal with just 12 seconds left to go.
This weekend we have the 2nd of this seasons derby games against the Bristol Pitbulls. I know how much beating this team means to Cudd and if we put in the same performance we did against Chelmsford we will blow them out of the water (albeit frozen…).
Sunday sees Jeremy Cornish’s Wightlink Raiders team return to Cardiff for the second time this season, having been close to winning on their last visit I know the boys will be fired up and ready to ensure we get the job done right this time!”
ENL Devils head to Bristol for the second servernside derby of the season. The last game ending 3-3 and the boys will no doubt want to put this right and bring the 2 points back then on Sunday, they play home v Wightlink. Hopefully the boys can take another big scalp and play to the level we all know they can. It will be a tough weekend but there's enough fire power and determination within the team to pull them through.
Bristol's main sniper Egidijus Bauba has been in some top form recently and one the Devils will want to keep quiet.
