ENL Devils Vs Chelmsford Cheiftains 12th November
The ENL Devils head into the game v Chelmsford this weekend full of confidence after a good 4 point weekend. Last weekend saw then win 8-5 in Oxford and a convincing 11-1 win at home v Bracknell despite being short benched with Sedlak, Lockwood, Sadler and James all missing from the line-up.
Scorers from Saturday's 8-5 win C Jones x 2| Sedlak x 2| Piggot x 1| Sadler x 1| Preece x 1| Hayes x1
Sunday's scorers Piggott x 3|Haslam x 3|Hayes x 2|C Jones X 2 | Duance x 1
We also need to give a quick mention to departing ENL player Lee Duance. Lee's off to the Marines shortly so we wish him all the best in his new career.
We caught up with Luke Piggott to reflect on a very satisfying weekend for the ENL boys
"After a disappointing couple of results against Romford and Bristol, leading up to the weekend Cudd had us really focussing on our execution in front of the net and made it clear to the team that nothing less than 4 points from the weekend would be acceptable.
To come away from Oxford on Saturday with the 2 points was a great achievement as historically this is a rink we struggle to win at. Whilst the game was tight in the first 2 periods we came out flying in the 3rd and put into practice what Cudd had been preaching all week, hard work and execution in front of the net will win us games and that was clear as we rallied to score 4 goals in the final period to win the game 8-5.
Sunday we came up against the young Bracknell squad and having beaten them twice already this season we were not going to accept anything less this time around. Again the first 2 periods were played at an intensity that wasn’t good enough for our own barn but coming out into the 3rd to score 7 unanswered goals to win the game 11-1 just goes to show what we are capable of when we play the way we should in these games.
However playing to our potential in just 1 period will hurt us against the better oppositions and we must learn to play the full 60 minutes in this manner if we are to launch a real title challenge.
It was positive to see Chris Jones and Jamie Hayes continuing their great scoring form and young Josh Haslam get his 1st senior ENL hat-trick!
Perhaps the most notable goal of the game came from Lee Duance though, as he scored in his final game for Cardiff before he sets off to join the Royal Marines. Lee has been a fantastic team-mate over the years, nicknamed “shoulders” he could be described as slightly having a screw loose as he would never backdown from a confrontation under any circumstances.
His improvement over the last couple years has meant he has become one of the key figures in the ENL1 defensive unit and he leaves us with a difficult hole to plug. I expect everyone would like to join the entire team wishing him well in the new challenges that face him and that he comes back to us safely!"
Chelmsford are tipped as the main contenders for this seasons league title and come into the blue tent with an impressive league run of late. Having won 9 games on the bounce and have some impressive stats to back up their recent performances.
1. Gary Clarke (F) 15 19 20 39
2. Jakub Klima (F) 13 19 19 38
3. Daniel Hammond (F) 15 18 15 33
4. Tom Long (F) 15 14 14 28 20
5. Ross Brears (F) 15 8 19 27
Previous meetings with the ENL Devils in 11-12 Season have seen the Devils come away worse for wear
Cardiff 4-5 Chelmsford
Chelmsford 5-3 Cardiff
This game is expected to be a very interesting game. Two fast skilled teams going for the 2 points along with some big hits thrown in for good measure.
