Devils Vs Capitals - 19.01.13
Saturday night see’s the 9th placed Edinburgh Capitals head to Cardiff to take on the Devils in the Devils only game of the weekend. This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season with the tally currently 2 - 1 to the Devils.
Last weekend saw the Capitals in action twice first up away in Hull on Saturday where the Capitals opened the scoring at 13.24 as Curtis Leinweber was on hand to dispatch the puck into the net. It remained this way for the remainder of the first period.
A double from Jereme Tendler Turned the game around as he found the net at 30.15 and then again at 34.47 with a powerplay goal. From being a goal behind the home team now found themselves a goal in front.
The Capitals were not for lying down and at 46.17 Player/Coach Richard Hartmann got his team level with a powerplay goal. This turned out to be the only goal of the third period and the game went into sudden death overtime.
Overtime failed to find a winner but penalty shots would. This was the sixth time Hull had been taken to a shootout and this one was no different from the other five as they failed to get the win. With Leinweber scoring with the first shot for the Capitals the home side had to score with one of their first three but they missed all three.

Sunday saw the Capitals in action at home against the Stars. It had been Capitals who had started the brighter and led after only 66 seconds thanks to a goal by Marcis Zembergs. Stars did manage to regroup after their hosts good start and tied the period at 15.46 with an effort by Tim Kraus.
The second period was also tied but did see the visitors go ahead when A J Maclean scored at 33.15 on the powerplay before Zembergs grabbed his second of the game at 35.43 for 2-2 going into the third.
A shorthanded goal by Jade Portwood at 46.58 had Capitals seemingly heading for victory but Stars dug deep and at 49.37 MacLean scored his second to leave a great last few minutes in prospect.
Close things at either end but this is a Stars side full of confidence right now and with only 33 seconds of regulation it was Ryhanen who proved the visitors hero when he fired home to give his side their sixth point in three great days.
Edinburgh Capitals 3- 4 Dundee Stars
Canadian Brent Patry said of the defeat: “That kind of stuff really cannot happen, especially at home against a team we are fighting so hard with, a team that we need to beat to get into the play-offs. That was a big four-point game and to lose it like that, in the manner we did, is just plain unacceptable. Dundee, for their third match in three nights, showed a lot of resilience. They still seemed to have some energy, and for whatever reason we struggled to match their intensity late in the game.”
Neil Hay said: “We had three chances to get the puck out of our zone, but instead we were panicking, flapping on the puck and turning it over. Throughout the game there was a lot of stray passing which either got us into a bit of trouble or let the Stars off the hook. This has to be cut out, we need to relax and play the puck properly.
“I’m a firm believer that good communication skills on the ice can be like a sixth man or an extra pair of eyes. If you’re trying to control the puck it’s not always easy to keep your head up and the guys round about you should be shouting instructions to help you out, when you’re under pressure. "
“Lack of communication leads to turnovers, and ultimately goals against. Talking to one another on the ice is something we need to be doing more of, and it needs to be sorted out.”
Scoring from the Capitals against the Devils has been led by Rene Jarolin on two goals who’s 43 points for the season, Richard Hartmann also on two goals with a total of 39 points for the season and Martin Cingel who’s also netted twice and is on 31 points for the season. Backing them up are Curtis Leinweber on 23 points and Marcis Zembergs on 22 points.
In nets the Capitals have Tomas Hiadlovsky who boasts a 90% save percentage and goals against of 3.27.
The Deivls scoring on the Capitals has been dominated by the Mac Faulkner show with Mac having netted 5 times so far this season while Chris Blight has put up two goals on the Capitals to date.
