Devils @ Panthers CC Game preview 2/10
1st Oct 2012 | Posted by Geraint Walters
Devils head to Nottingham for Challenge Cup action against the Panthers. The last meeting between the teams, the Devils came out eventual winners 6-5 in OT despite being 4-1 up in the 3rd period.
With the news of Corey Neilson being out for up to a month and maybe longer, the Panthers welcome back Gui Lepine as well as new recruit due to the lockout NHL Anthony Stewart from Carolina Hurricanes. Stewart is a 3rd line grinder for the 'canes but not shy to shoot the puck and will add depth and some toughness up front for the Panthers which they seem to be lacking.
Coach Neilson had this to say about Stewart ""I'm genuinely thrilled to see him joining us, for however long. The lock-out has opened up some doors, we've already announced Guy Lepine is returning as an indirect result of the NHL dispute, now we're bringing in someone of Anthony's character and ability. The support from management in bringing this about has been fantastic. The boss picked up the baton less than 24 hours ago and with backing from the chairman here we are making an announcement of this nature. Fantastic!"
The Devils will travel without Max Birbraer after a check was deemed illegal v Belfast Giants player Brock Matheson in last Thursday's 4-0 loss. Birbraer is serving a 3 game ban and tomorrow's game will be the second while his final game on the sideline will be against Sheffield in Cardiff on Saturday.
With the 4-0 home loss being followed up by a 4-1 win at home, the Devils will be looking to make amends for the Thursday loss and get back to playing like they did in the 1st two weeks of the new season. Devils coach Adams said "I am fully aware what is expected, Paul and I have been in discussions for a few weeks about areas that obviously need improving. That said, we are only in week four, and this league is extremely competitive. There are no weak teams in this league, and the fans can rest assured that with Paul's support and my leadership, we are already considering our options which may include player changes."
If you can't make the game tomorrow, don't worry as we'll be running the "Ridiculously childish" and "disgustingly biased" Match Night Live service for this game, at the usual location of http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/mnl if you'd like to help out with texting updates we’d be happy to hear from you or if you'd like to chip in with some comments on the night please contact us at matchnightlive@gmail.com.
