Fife play shot

Sunday night see’s the Devils in action against the Fife Flyers, the last meeting between the two clubs resulted in a 4 - 0  shutout for the Devils against the Flyers at home. This game on the road see’s the Devils play their third game of the weekend and also sees them play in a third country for the weekend.

In the run up to this game the Flyers face the Blaze away on Saturday night prior to this game their last outing last was last Saturday at home to the Giants where they made it four straight home wins.

Flyers had the better of the first period, however, they went behind as Craig Peacock came out the penalty box at 11.58 and within six seconds he put the visitors in front. The Flyers quickly got over this shock as within a minute they were back on level terms as Casey Haines on the power play netted at 12.59.

The only marker in the second period came the way of the home team as Jason Pitton found the net at 26.29 to give his team a 2-1 lead.

With only a goal between the teams the third period was a tense affair. However, two goals in just over a minute for the Flyers ended the game as a contest as Pitton went on to complete his hat trick with strikes at 51.28 and 52.53.

Final score Fife Flyers 4 – 1  Belfast Giants

Speaking about this last weekend’s game and the upcoming weekend Flyers assistant coach Danny Stewart knows his team face a tough weekend but is confident of continuing his team’s recent good form.

He said: “We have raised the standard after last weekend’s performance, and we would love to play like that night in night out. What we need to do is we need to prepare properly for every weekend in order to give ourselves the chance to repeat that performance against Belfast to get the same sort of results. If we go out and perform like we did on Saturday we will see much more wins this season than loses that’s for sure.”

Sunday night sees Cardiff finish the weekend in Fife, who travel to Belfast on Friday, host Braehead on Saturday in Cardiff before the long trip to Fife on Sunday.

Cardiff have a lot of travelling ahead of them this weekend and we need to make sure that we come out straight from the get go and not take our foot off the gas. When we played Cardiff down in their rink we lost 4-0, was it a 4-0 game, I don’t think so. I actually think we played our best period on the road during that game, and that was in the 1st where it finished 3-0 to Cardiff. With the crowd behind us on Sunday though and the same performance we put in against Belfast we are confident of continuing our recent good run."

We took a quick look at the Flyers squad in the run up to the last time we played the Devils which you can check out here http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/news/devils-vs-flyers-game-preview/ where we felt that the Flyers were looking to be a  better team than last season we thought that they  still looked to be one or maybe two imports short of being a serious challenger in their group and the league. Since then they have added a new Import in the addition of Bobby Chaumont from the Clan and look to be having a run of good form.

Looking at the scoring for the flyers the ones to watch are Casey Haines on 37 points ( 12 Goals, 23 assists); Bobby Chaumont who’s on 25 points in total for the season split between the two clubs he’s played for, kris Hogg on 23 points and Jason Pitton on 21 points,

In Goal the flyers have the solid Bryan Pitton who’s save percentage currently stands at  90.1 % with a Goals against average of  2.66.

It’s hard to know what shape the Devils will be in come Sunday with two tough games in the run up to this meeting with the Flyers. The one previous game against the Flyers saw a result of  4 – 0 with scoring from Chris Blight, Ben Davies, Paul Bissonnette and Luke Piggott on the Flyers goal, you can see a full review of that game here  http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/news/devils-vs-flyers-game-review/ hopefully the Devils will have something left in the tank and not fall prey to the Flyers early in the game which looks to be the Flyers game plan.

We will be running the “ridiculously childish and disgustingly biased” Match Night Live service for this game, expect name calling and one eyed bias in epic proportions, at the usual location of http://www.the-inferno.co.uk/mnl if you'd like to help out by texting updates (we’d be happy to hear from you) or chip in with some comments on the night please contact us at matchnightlive@gmail.com.
