The Start to the Cardiff Devils tough double header away weekend ended with disappointment in the Scottish Capital. With the Edinburgh Capitals bringing home a hard fought 2-1 Victory in the Elite league.

The First period set the standard for the entire game with Both teams playing very openly and going for a Long game with some great up ice passes. Offence was defiantly on display with the devils second line of Hill - Latuillipe and Miller and the Capitals Trio of Fussey - Lambert - Hutchins being the stand outs. Both defences held well in the first period, right until late in the period, When Owen Fussey stripped a Devils D man on the Blue line and deked Lyle out of his skates to make the game 1-0 at 19:10.

The Second period saw much the same flow of game, a very open end to end hockey game. With both teams struggling to gain any clear cut chances due to solid Defence corps by both teams. That was until mid way through the period when a cross ice pass to the Back post by Gerad Adams saw Jay Latuillipe strike the puck, it appeared to have crossed the line but was not given by referee Marco Coenen however the puck fell back to latuillipe who passed it back to Gerad Adams who was now in the slot to tuck the puck away. A slight controversy surrounded this goal as during Latuillipes pass to Adams Matt Miller Appeared to have slashed a Capitals Defenseman. Coenen didn’t blow however and the goal stood to make it a 1-1 hockey game.

The second period ended without much other incident, both goaltenders making some good saves, but both defences still refused to give the other an inch. Going into the third period the early stages looked set for the game to have gone to Overtime, that was until a mistake free game was tarnished as Lyle went round the back of his net to claim the puck, Scott Mackenzie got there first and fed the puck out in front to Jeff Hutchins, who slipped the puck past the unset Lyle to give the Capitals the 2-1 Advantage. From then on the Devils pressed and pressed but the Capitals D kept its shape and discipline and when called upon Cody Rudkowsky in the Capitals goal looked solid, And despite the Devils best efforts of pulling Lyle for the extra skater the Capitals held firm and came away with a thoroughly deserved full points. The teams will meet at the big blue tent Next Saturday face off 7pm.
