Blight's POFW blog

Blight Hit

This final blog is written amidst some serious studying going on as Mac and I have exams starting on Tuesday next week.  I have a lot of respect for Stu Macrae, Mark Smith, Scott Matzka and everyone else that managed to do this MBA course at Cardiff University and play hockey at the same time.  Although Stu says they had a week off after finals weekend before exams so sounds like Mac and I drew the short stick as far as scheduling this year goes.

I’d like to thank the Cardiff Devils organization for giving me the opportunity to play here and further my education.  It has been very tough at times to do well at both as there never seems to be enough time to get everything you need to do finished but I certainly wouldn’t trade the opportunity for anything else.

I’d also like to thank a number of people close to the club that have helped out throughout the year…

Mike Parsons, our trainer at FFC training, has been great to work with this year.  I know he is probably wondering where Mac and I have been at times but I assure you our studies got in the way!  Thanks for the great workouts and of course taking me to my first 6 nations game, what a treat that was!

Corky is another guy that has been great to have around the team this year.  He’s helped out so much with our charitable ventures earlier in the year and is always there if you need anything.

Macky, Mark, Mario, the 3 M’s who have all been our equipment trainer at one point.  Macky works himself to the bone and recently had an illness because of it most likely.  Mark and Mario did a good job stepping in to help us out when Macky went down and we really appreciate what all of them have done this year.

Geraint Walters runs the inferno website and gets all of the guys to write these blogs for the fans.  I hope they like reading them as much as I do.  Boom Boom had a great one today.  He also makes sure we have snacks and drinks on the bus for our road trips.(Chris Fletcher, Gerald Davies, John Williams, Marcus Howells also help G out) Thanks for that G.

Thank you to all of our bus drivers for getting us to and from the games safely too!  You guys have a tough job driving through the night and we really appreciate it.  Even when you hit the rumble strips to wake us up in the middle of the night!

Thank you to all of the sponsors and staff at the rink for your work and support this year.

Finally, thank you to all the fans who continued to support us through the tough times.  You are a special group of fans that I have not seen in my pro playing career.  The support means so much and we look forward to hearing it again this weekend in the POFW.

I’m sure I’ve missed someone and if I have I do apologise.  There are so many great people involved in the devils organisation that make it all possible. As players, we hope to reward everyone with 2 more wins this weekend!
