my answer to that would be
even a very average team can put in a competent performance ,may be not win but a comparative game , if i was to believe like you , then there would be no point in some thing like the F A cup , to put it in football terms yet premier teams have lost against lower league teams , back to ice hockey , P R is not going to progress the team ,he is holden them back.

I remember listening to an interview with Henry Staelens who was Ice Hockey UK CEO at the time, and he compared us to Hungary. Similar world ranking, similar player base, but something like 5 full time staff in our organisation vs 24 on theirs.
This isn’t our level and we’ve overachieved in the past. It is what it is. But slowly but surely I hope we can build into something more sustainable.

Latvia are seeded 10th in the world, and beat the USA 4-2 the other day, and yes calling Russell a crap coach is being kind. But GB are never a pool A team,they are a team that will give it their all, but in pool A that’s not enough. As I said we are ranked 17th in the world and there’s a reason for that.
Given the current infrastructure, financing and time limitations, plus Team GB is a team in major transition from near retirees to a mix of younger players, players qualifying under changed rules etc...it's unbelievable our team is even playing in the top division against world class teams.
For so many years Team GB was one of the strongest teams in next division down (2nd tier from top 16). That is more their comfortable level.

Germany 7th in the world ratings, GB 17th, PR is a lousy coach but Wayne Gretzky couldn’t make up those 10 ratings difference. GB were always going to be the whipping boys they are the Fife of pool A unfortunately, these lads need a long long rest now, chasing game after game takes the shit out of you.
