Devils head north for another league game vs title chasing steelers. Devils title hopes are slim at best now but we still have a chance to be kingmakers and put a dent in Sheffields chances.

I'd rather finish forth rather than play glasgow in 6th at mo think they got 24 pts out of last 28 all ifs and buts though as playoffs is knockout hockey .

Devils head to Sheffield again having last won a game there 532 days ago. Since then Devils have played 5 matches in Sheffield and scored only 5 goals and conceding 20 in those games. We’ve only won one period in our last 5 visits to Sheffield and haven’t led at any point there in any of those games. Sheffield have led these games for 88.57% of game time played this season.

But this afternoon Devils go with 15 import skaters or the first time in Sheffield so maybe that might help us change the recent narrative.

Based on recent history we might not get many shots on goal at the Utilita Arena as we’ve had just 92 SoG in total in those 5 games (ave. 18.4 SoG per game) and last time out managed just a single shot on goal in the first period and we’ve only managed an average of 19.0 SoG per game in the past 4 years of matches there.

Despite our limited offense, Cole Sanford has scored 3 of our 5 goals there this season. Our powerplay in Sheffield has been OK scoring 2 goals from 5 chances, but it is one of our poorer arenas for PK having only killed 8 out of 12 penalties.

On special teams, despite our CC final shut-out our PP units have continued the hot streak they’ve been on. In our last 5 games we scored 7 PP goals from the 15 chances we’ve had = 46.67% success rate. However, our PK has dropped off lately and in the same 5 games is running at 73.68%). For comparison in their last 5 games Sheffield’s PP is 25% and their PK is 63.64%.

Ben Bowns has saved 68 out of 74 shots in Sheffield this season (91.89% rate) and Mac Carruth 35 out of 50 (87.50%). Ben starts tonight (backed up by Tyler de la Bertouche) and Mac and Taz are again rested.

We have scored on 8.2% of our shots in Sheffield whereas the Steelers have scored on 10.43% of theirs. Despite being heavily outscored, Tyler Busch is +2 in Sheffield this year (the only player in positive figures). We’re well behind on face-off wins having only won 43.88% of the match-ups. Evan Mosey just nips the time-on-ice lead from Andrew MacWilliam (21 mins 55 secs per game)

Whatever we do, we need to play to the whistle and hope Sheffield don’t again!

There we go, like I said, back to back games, especially playing against the top teams, our record this season is nothing short of atrocious. So set expectations low ....anything else is a bonus.

Another boring training session, it’s all Steelers and it could easily be 3-0. Something is massively wrong with this team, it’s like we can’t be arsed, even Flyers put 3 past Giants, the very team that has scored 14 unanswered goals against us in the last 3 games.

1-0 flatters Sheffield a bit and at the moment it feels very low key, not helped by a silent arena. We are making some pretty patterns between the blue lines but there is a lack of creativity from both sides in the O zone.

Not the worst game by a long stretch but yet to catch fire

if and when shinkaruk comes back the first line need to be changed because it is not effective.are we going to be shut out yet again?playing dump and chase is obviously not working either, wheres plan b?its going to be a long long next 3 seasons because i don't think we'll come close to winning anything.

How can Russell not see our top line is not working! O Brian drives me insane, no effort to get back, fight for the puck. As soon as the puck lost he the first one off the ice!

I don’t know what game you’re watching Wanabee but we are holding our own fine. It’s certainly not all Steelers by any means. Bowns and D are doing a better job than recently.
I agree that our first lines aren’t looking dangerous. The 3rd and 4th lines have been impressive this weekend, particularly with possession in the I zone, but we need to score some goals too and you would expect lines 1 and 2 to put something together.
