Standing during warm-up

I'm not sure what other people think about everyone standing at the front for the warm-up but it really annoys me and I think there should be an announcement to ask people to sit down during the warm-up the same as the game.

I sit in block 4 and we get lots of away fans stood at the front of the block to watch their team warm-up but there are also Devils fans stood in front of block 2 and 3 who obstruct the view of the Devils. It really annoyed me last season and it has already started again this season, if it was just one or 2 people it would be ok because you could ask them to sit down or move but when most of the front of the block has people standing it is a bit of a pain. I'm not sure why some people think they have the right to stand in front of everyone else and obstruct their view. Not to mention the fact that it blocks the already narrow walk way along the front of the seats.

I also find it strange that during the end of the game an announcement is made stating that people shouldn’t lean against the railings as they are not made to be pushed against but it is fine for everyone to lean up against them during the warm-up.

I see where you're coming from when it comes to fans leaning on the railings from a safety p.o.v, but from what I've noticed only a handful of people stand to watch warm up (myself included yesterday - first game of the season ritual for me as I like to see the team) in comparison to when the game is finished - when basically the entirety of the railings are covered by people leaning on them.

If you're not a season ticket holder, perhaps try buying tickets towards the back? If you're not, perhaps it's best if you do go up and ask if people could move over as they're obstructing your view, as it really is only a handful of people. Or maybe it is worth having a word with one of the stewards on the night to see if they can help - I think the senior steward is the user who advertised for new stewards on the boards, might be worth PMing him?

Also (and not to split hairs!, people pay to watch the game technically, not the warm up, otherwise everyone would be in arena when the doors open :)

Cheers

People only seem to give abuse if anyone 'dares' to ask them to move.

And 90% of the stewards don't actually care enough to go sort out issues that nobody, including them, knows the rules/expectations around.

In fairness we only do what we are asked to do by the Devils staff, which is keep people off the stairs during the game. I brought the "people standing on the railings" issue up with one of the Devils people last season, and they said they weren't too bothered about it.

GhostDog, I presume you're a steward?

And you prove my point. You are volunteers, are you not? You shouldnt be expected to go around the rink telling people to do this, do that or not do something just because you *think* its right/wrong. Ok, so you are there in an official capacity, but you are only there as eyes and ears and keepers of the peace. I would hope and assume there are PAID, TRAINED, members of PI and Devils club staff around the rink that could be called upon should a more serious situation arise?

It seems there isnt a great deal of emphasis on health and safety from the club to the fans and the stewards because I have seen a lot of things that are let slide because the stewards dont know how to deal with them effectively e.g. bottle throwing

They contradict themselves all the time e.g. with the letting crowds lean over one minute, telling them to back off the next.

I dont really have any opinion re watching warm ups, only really that, out of courtesy, those people that want to watch, try and do so out of direct line of other people or sit on the front row until the owners of the seats turn up.

People shouldnt be hanging over the barriers at any point really. But I dont think there are enough stewards to enforce that, especially if Paul S doesnt announce anything.

And that is probably the easiest way to solve this issue....

Perhaps an announcement about waiting for a break in play before sauntering towards a staircase might also be made? I haven't seen so many people walking around during play for ages.....

oh god yeah, thats another one!!

A simple announcement please Paul! Also, perhaps these things could be put onto the Devils TV screens? People do read them - to be honest its difficult to not find yourself reading/watching them even for 20 seconds during warm up.

I can't really see that as an argument. If that was the case I wouldn't have made the post in the first place as no one would be stood in the way if people only went to see the game and not the warm-up ;)

I pay the same amount as the rest of the people in the rink which is for the whole nights entertainment, part of which is the warm up.

I am a season ticket holder so can't move from where I sit, I wouldn't want to move either as the view is fine (as good as it can be in our rink) when I don't have people stood in front of me.

An announcement or 2 during the warm-up would be a great idea as this would save having to go and ask each person to move individually or asking the stewards to get people to move. Would Paul Sullivan be the best person to speak to about this?

its inevitable that fans are going to stand expecially around blocks 2 + 3 as we offer the most support during warm up and games as previous suggestions go either move to the back of the block or get to the barrier yourself.

as safety goes we very rarely lean against the barriers just stand near them, to say an announcement needs to be made now is laughable why now it was fine last season and the season before.

Regardless Kevin, a decision one way or the other needs to be made, announced and more importantly, enforced.

I often sit at the back of block 2 and have found it annoying when rows A-D, seats 20-23(ish) and their 10 strong fan club turn up to have a natter and don't even bother watching the damn warm up! Can't see a bloody thing and why should I have to move/stand somewhere else?

Its not just a block 2 problem though. There is plenty of support in the other blocks. Most people either choose to sit down, or stand downstairs to socialise before the game. The stairs by the drummers block is horrendously busy so count yourself lucky.
