Rumours & Offseason Nonsense 2026/27

What if it's Sanford and Kontos that are returning.

MacDonald - Martin - Caron
Kontos- Yaremko - Sanford
Barrow - Mieho - Oli

I would say that's more strength in depth in scoring than last year, and also more size too. Also have Mosey to jump in.

I would have been happy to have Riley come back, but with who we have announced already I can't see where he fits or is he what we need.
I think the chances of Riley Brandt having the goal output that he did last year is highly unlikely so I tend to agree with you.
He might not be happy about moving back to a full time forth line role either

Brandt won’t be going anywhere.

if Brandt comes back , and is used as was last season then , theirs no reason his points will not be around the same as last year. if its one thing you can say about Brandt , its that he gives it, its all.
and will want to repeat that tally .
he will be a danger on a apposing team if he goes. this could be his peak playing years.

Really hope Riley returns, he's something different for the opposition to worry about looking over their shoulder wondering where he is

Thomo spoke about making difficult decisions, do you want to keep some fans happy or keep, bring in a proven forty points player? goals win games. Could that be where our extra season ticket money goes. The deal is to win the league. Glad I’m not making the decisions.

Given the Lordo link, and yes if we were needing a 6'3" 220lb wrecking ball he would fit. Points production at AHL level not mindblowing, but if we are being consistent with how we assessed Mieho and Caron with their points at higher levels....who knows i could work.

Whilst I appreciate not everybody likes to think about where someone would fit on the roster....where does this guy ice? 3rd line C? Top 6? (Irrespective of whichever I suggested I'm sure I would get either: 'the guy isn't going to come from the AHL to play line 3 hockey' or 'he doesn't have the game or stats for Top 6')

I like that theres a rumour with a Lordo player. I note that Callum Booth's brother is on the books of the Reign and had a taster of the NHL last season at only 21. Hope he cracks on and has a great career - ending with a few seasons for us. His brother, and how things ended for him, infuriated me - should have kept at it.

I must admit, Jacob Doty was a name I had heard as a possible signing a couple of weeks ago.
Puts up points, a regular in a big league and played under Lordo, so who knows?

The bit I don’t quite understand is that some say he’s not what we need as he’s a ‘role player’ in the AHL….well wasn’t Meiho a ‘role player’ in Liiga and the SHL?
Wasn’t Caron a ‘role player‘ also in Liiga?….. albeit they were employed as defensive shut down forwards.

My point being that a lot of the players that EIHL teams pick up from those higher leagues would be classed as ‘role players’ but they come here to play the game in a different way, maybe the type of hockey they played before they made it into the big leagues, the type of hockey that made them ‘fall in love with the game’ when playing as youngsters.
That’s a big pull for some of the guys that want to have some fun again before hanging up the skates for good!

Fournier went to a bigger league in Austria for a few seasons and his natural attacking flair was ‘coached out‘ of him but now after a couple of season back with us he’s enjoying some of his best form again.

That's a great point. The love of the game, plus being able to do a degree as you transition out of the game are big draws.

I remember talking to Fourns before COVID and he said that when he came to the Devils he had lost the love of the game and that playing here had given him that love back.

That's completely fair about translating that role player, compared to Caron and Meiho.

I guess it could work as a replacement for Brandt. He'd be from a bigger pedigree, tougher etc.
But he's also 4 years older, and I'd be surprised if he'd put his all into every shift for the shirt in the way Riley does.

If that's the play then I can only assume it was RIley's decision not to come back, and perhaps he priced himself out of it after a career season.
