Parking for today's game

Seen the postings about something going on in sports village today. Is it likely to mean trouble parking in OUR car park even though they have the audacity to charge us every week?

The annoying part of it is , swimming gala personel will use the big carpark and dont have to pay . We go to their carpark and can't use it although it's a public car park , just saying

I know our club have no say in this ,it's the ccc raking money in off devils fans and nobody else that use it . Is that a case for discrimination ?

A couple of years ago we were told by CCC that the pool had the lease on the pool car park, so could control it's use. That was contrary to what had been conveyed to us by the club previously (e.g. Todd's Q&A), and I'm not sure how it fits with development of that car park for the senior living homes - maybe the lease ends soon?

Does anyone know what happened to the CCC proposal on parking charges? IIRC it was to be free for people using leisure facilities (e.g going for a swim or a skate), but charges for people attending events. Devils games are events, and galas too, but I guess most spectators at the gala will be with competitors so can park for free on the grounds that one person in the car is going to get wet. Anyone attending as a pure spectator I'd expect to have to pay to park, but it then becomes a problem for the attendants if drivers say they are taking part in the gala.

Maybe we could set up a rota to drive individual Devils players in for games, then we can park 20 cars for free.

Personally, we use Morrisons. A bit further to walk, but really easy entry and exit, especially from Ferry Rd, and free if staying less than 3 hours. We normally pay for an extra hour, so it's 4 hours for £1.60 using the Ring Go app. You can book in advance, so if we park at 6:45, we'll normally book 9:45-10:45 just in case, to avoid risking an £80 fine.

I was wondering about this before, do you not pay for 4 hours on the app? Or is it three hours free, then plus one hour?

3 hours free, then pay for any extra hours as required. We often cover ourselves by booking an extra hour anyway as it's only £1.60, but if you can be out before 3 hours is up there's nothing to pay.

This has made me feel like a right dickhead.

For about two seasons now I’ve been parking in Morrisons and paying £4.60 a time for 4 hours. I assumed that up to three hours was free but if you were longer then you would have to pay for all of the time? Still slightly cheaper than Toysrus but a damn side less stressful and easier to get in and out.

No problem, don't mind parking at the rink, well supervised, easy to get out and secure in the knowledge that there are stewards in the area when were in the arena, mate of mine had his car broken into a few months ago at morrisons, used it for non hockey use.

Just to mention that parking at Morrisons means shoppers get 3hrs free.
The parking companies are not stupid boasting about abusing this benefit.Hope you have a receipt from the store if you are challenged.
I believe the charge at Morrisons is fair. Parking is supervised, clean with filling station and coffee shop on site.Much easier to get out after a game.

'Boasting about abusing the benefit'? I assume you are referring to my post, but it certainly wasn't my intention to boast, nor do I think I'm abusing a benefit. From my point of view, I was simply passing on my interpretation of how the system works. Admittedly this photo (below) is from a few months ago, and I will check the signs again next weekend, but there does not appear to be anything about the 3 free hours being only for Morrisons (or Starbucks?) customers.

In my local area (Bridgend), there are examples of both systems - Tesco clearly states it is 2 hours free if you use the shop, but the Asda carpark is a joint Asda/municipal arrangement and anyone can park in it for free up to 3 hours.

It might be considered ambiguous in terms of whether staying longer than 3 hours means you have to pay for the full 4 or 5 hours, or just the extra hour or two, so if you are concerned the safe option is to pay from whenever you park, unless you are sure you will be gone in 3 hours anyway.

Regardless of the cost, I agree with you that it's a decent car park with other practical benefits.

It does say on the sign 'payment must be made when entering the car park' in small letters. That being said, we do the hour topup to try our luck.

Having got over my umbrage at being called boastful , I've done a bit more research and the information published in various places is contradictory insome respects, though nowhere that I've found does it say 3 hours is only free for Morrisons customers. If anyone knows the definitive policy, I would be grateful to hear it.

Below the signs that I included earlier, there are also some yellow signs. I only had a partial image of that sign, but have since found a pic in a post on the Devils website last April, when the rink car park was being closed to enable construction of the new events car park. https://www.cardiffdevils.com/news/parking-update-arena-users/

These yellow signs say categorically that parking is for maximum of 3 hours, with no return within 2 hours. It also says there is number plate recognition (NPR) in operation and if you overstay 3 hours, there is a £100 fine. This implies there is no need to, or way of, paying - you just have to be out within 3 hours. To my mind these signs have been superseded and should have been removed. Interestingly, they are under a Euro Car Parks header, the same as the other signs and the name that appears on my card statement whichever payment app is used. I would also say the NPR aspect is not true, because if it actually worked that way an awful lot of people would have been fined by now.

The Morrisons website simply says there is parking for up to 3 hours - i.e. in line with the yellow signs and not a reflection of what seems to be the current policy however it is interpreted.

As I said before, I cannot see anything that says you can only park for 3 hours for free if using Morrisons, but if you are concerned, play safe and pay from the time you park up.

Fair play for taking the time to think about and tell us about your car parking habits.

Love an internet forum and social media feed.

It’s obviously working for you so don’t sweat it or feel the need to justify it.
