I stayed in Newark in march and have stayed there in past years too and haven't had any trouble or even a spot of bother, where did you get so much hassle?

first thing we saw when we arrived at the Newark PATH station was two cops beating one of the countless homeless people right in front of everyone, big scrum then ensued with people telling the cops to leave him alone etc. Walked out, past 'The Rock' towards our hotel, and on the busy streets in broad daylight there was a guy with a needle sticking out of his arm coming towards us asking for money. Never again.

Been to New York 3 times however and not had a single problem. Can't emphasise how much I love Manhattan, friendliest people Ive ever met.

Yikes! Sorry to hear that! However manhattan is really friendly, surprisingly so. Even when I had my new jersey back pack on in msg haha.
