Manchester Storm

Thread starter #1
Just read the following release via FB. What does this mean for the future of Manchester Storm and in particular going into next season.

I hope they manage to make it through this as we had some great games against them this season and we can't afford to be losing teams in the league. Hope they can literally weather the storm.

Apologies if this has already been highlighted. Please obviously feel free to place it where needed mods.

This is actually really interesting as the AO Arena doesn’t even have an ice plant at the moment. Think PlanetIce has really tried to force Storm’s hand here - expect to see a very vague statement pretty soon.

I heard a rumour at the Storm game in Cardiff towards the end of the season they were very close to agreeing a deal to return to the old MEN Arena.

Looks like Planet Ice found out and pushed them before they could jump.

There on their way to the AO I reckon.
They are indeed and it could be a very good move for them. The new arena in Trafford should be with us in the near future as well so ..... whilst there are a few more issues to sort, I think this could be good for hockey in general and Manchester in particular

I know we won the playoffs but wouldn't it be icing on the cake if storm did and raise their banner in the new home., good luck to them and their fans, all they need now is to fill it, on a side note , be a great venue for the playoffs ?

This highlights the missed opportunity with the New Arena in Cardiff... Good luck to Manchester, exciting times for them.
Don’t think any opportunities were missed, if the Council and the Arena didn’t want us there then there’s nothing the club could have done. Manchester is a completely different situation, the AO wanted them there big time and Todd wouldn’t have missed a chance if there had been one, think we all know that. Plus the AO still had the ice plant there.

Brilliant news. I imagine they’ve got themselves a good ice time deal too. Good memories of the old Storm playing there to huge crowds. It’s bigger than a number of NHL rinks! Must he odd for the players going to Dundee one week with 2,500 seats to Manchester the next with 17k!

I hope there’s some chance in the future we could stick an ice plant in the new arena down the bay. Can’t be that hard can it?!… We are now the 6th biggest rink in the league.

May fill it in the first month or so a good price for tkts would help storm will do all they can to get newbies on board with knockdown prices , could even have 3000 girl guides there 1 game .

Really hope we can get a Belfast style double header against storm going forward, now they are back in the arena

Be a great way for them to get some big away fans in

i think this is great news for the storm and the sport. Bring on next season. Also, in the future, coming is Prime Arena (also called the Dublin winter sports arena) with a capacity of 6,000 seated / 8,000 standing for events.
the country's first professional ice hockey team
potentially joining the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League , targeted for late 2028 or early 2030,

Todd spoke in detail on the podcast earlier this season about how he wishes he could have the opportunity to use the new arena in the Bay and how he's tried but ultimately why Devils can't move there - not his choice as he wanted it.
