Latest on injuries?

He will be devastated he can't play but no player will ever work harder on their recovery than him. He is key to the character and values of this Team. Get well soon Riley and we are all hoping to see you before the end of the season.

So, with Brett Perlini now added to the injury list (not the official IR, just the list of players injured at the moment), after Saturday's Pride Night game vs Nottingham, the total 'man games' lost so far this season and their reasons are as follows:

3 games missed through suspensions
9 healthy scratches
9 games missed for personal reasons
161 games missed due to injury

So we're 47 games into a potentially 76 game season and Devils have lost 170 'man games' to injury and personal reasons so far.

Any team that loses 170 'man games' in a whole season is going to struggle somewhere along the line, let alone when that many have been lost already when we're only 62% of the way through the season. It means basically that for each and every game we’ve played, on average around 4 key players have been unavailable to play through injury.

But with this background and looked at in this context, to have won a European trophy, be in the mix for the league, to have reached a cup semi-final and to almost certainly have qualified for the play-offs, I think, represents a great performance so far.

But isn’t it hard not to be frustrated at our wobbles and isn’t it hard not to blame many of them on missing key players each and every game, and isn’t it frustrating that we've still not yet seen the full Devils squad play to see perhaps what they might really be able to do?

Ours is not a team of quitters, and I believe there is a lot of fight left in them and there are still 3 titles left to be decided, but again isn’t it hard not to feel that the injury circumstances this season might yet potentially cost us some more silverware?

Would be interesting to see the same stats for other teams we are competing against.
Looking at the stats from the other teams (see posts below) Cardiff has had the worst injury record of the top 4, but Belfast had their worst injury period early on in the season and have had a fit team for quite a while now.

I’d say the stats suggest that it is the injury crisis of the last couple of months that has really hit Cardiff hardest – the stats for the last 20 games played for each of these 4 teams, is shown below too.

Cardiff have played the most games in the past couple of months short on players and they have also been shortest on import players too.

I’d be interested to see what everyone makes of these.

Belfast and Sheffield have played all their last 20 games with a full 15 import quota. Of their last 20 games, Nottingham have played 15 games with 15 imports and 3 with 14 imports. Of their last 20 games, Cardiff has played just 6 times with 15 imports, and 6 times with 14 imports, but 8 times with 13 or fewer imports.

Cardiff has played 18 out of 20 games short-benched and 10 games short by at least 2 players and in our last 20 games our record is 11-7-2 (for 60% pts percentage), but before this recent injury run (when only Hunter Shinkaruk was out longer term) the record was 17-5-1 (76.1% pts percentage). These are domestic games, not Conti Cup.

The stats might be interpreted to suggest this has made a big difference. Being short benched won’t be the only reason for the fall off.

Sure he missed part of the game Bacth played D after Fournier had the 2mins
Yes, when he came out of the box after serving his minor, he did some stretching exercises on the ice in front of the bench during a stoppage in play, and shortly after went into the dressing room for the remainder of the period. He was back out for the third period. Did he tweak something in the tussle that got him his penalty on Saturday night, and by Sunday warm-up felt it wasn’t right so was pulled? That’s just speculation though.

Bumping this up. Any ideas on Davies and Brandt?
Ben Davies is close. Todd said at the Q and A he was a couple of weeks or so away from returning. In the programm last week (vs Coventry and Sheffield) the article on Hunter Shinkarak stated that at that point he and Riley Brandt were 2-3 weeks away from returning the ice. Not sure if they mean training or paying though.

It seems like Devils have picked up another two injuries this weekend (Gourley and perhaps Schoonbaert who couldn’t complete the game in Fife). The IIHF trade deadline is upon us. Last week Todd said Devils were in talks with two players. Given (I assume) an announcement of a new signing usually comes a few days after it is made once paperwork is underway or sorted, there is a chance there’ll be an announcement this week about a new player….maybe?

Perlini was 3-4 weeks at the end of January so that should be early March too?

Doesn't seem to be any mention of Reid Duke since his other than a comment by Russell(?) at the time saying it could be a bad one?
In which case I wonder if he's out for season?
