So, with Brett Perlini now added to the injury list (not the official IR, just the list of players injured at the moment), after Saturday's Pride Night game vs Nottingham, the total 'man games' lost so far this season and their reasons are as follows:
3 games missed through suspensions
9 healthy scratches
9 games missed for personal reasons
161 games missed due to injury
So we're 47 games into a potentially 76 game season and Devils have lost 170 'man games' to injury and personal reasons so far.
Any team that loses 170 'man games' in a whole season is going to struggle somewhere along the line, let alone when that many have been lost already when we're only 62% of the way through the season. It means basically that for each and every game we’ve played, on average around 4 key players have been unavailable to play through injury.
But with this background and looked at in this context, to have won a European trophy, be in the mix for the league, to have reached a cup semi-final and to almost certainly have qualified for the play-offs, I think, represents a great performance so far.
But isn’t it hard not to be frustrated at our wobbles and isn’t it hard not to blame many of them on missing key players each and every game, and isn’t it frustrating that we've still not yet seen the full Devils squad play to see perhaps what they might really be able to do?
Ours is not a team of quitters, and I believe there is a lot of fight left in them and there are still 3 titles left to be decided, but again isn’t it hard not to feel that the injury circumstances this season might yet potentially cost us some more silverware?
