The Elite League is delighted to announce the addition of a new team playing out of the Isle of Wight ice rink for the 2017-18 season.
This is part of the league’s planned growth and the board unanimously voted in favour of Isle of Wight joining the league.
Elite League chairman, Tony Smith, said: “Everyone knows we were planning on having a team in London for 2017, but that has now been delayed. We're delighted that Planet Ice have once again stepped in with an alternative solution. We wanted a team in the south, and you can't get much further south than the Isle Of Wight!"
Planet Ice regional director John Neville confirmed "It's something we've been looking at for a while. It's tough to convince brits to move to the island, but we are hoping we won't have that problem with a team based around 14 imports".
This new team won't affect the Wightlink Raiders who will continue to play in the NIHL South. A new team name will be chosen with input taken from the fans
