If we get a season 21/22

Think it’s a bit early to start predicting player rosters. Even when the vaccine has completed in the U.K. the rest of the world isn’t going to catch up, best count has been 2024 for the rest of the World. That’s just this version using current vaccine, if a more advanced strain mutation is detected that number falls dramatically. A recent Virologist wrote we only know of a small % of mutations from data collected in a handful of countries with the technology and resources to find them. It’s feasible countries already have yet unknown mutated strains.
Thats just a ”small“ issue, you’ve still got to factor in financial impacts on everyone, that goes from a buyer of a ticket, through rink ownership, suppliers, rink maintenance companies right up to the financial security of owners & the league. The long this continues the worse it’s gonna get. Yes this is negative, sorry but spitting at a house on fire isn’t going to stop it burning, neither is talking about players returning, its just going to make it feel worse if the season doesn’t start.

Good God man, have you ever smiled? :)

Its just a topic. It's a nice little topic to keep the board ticking over BUT god forbid anyone think of a ray of hope or a bit of joy or a release could be had on here and your there to just slap any positivity down. The topic itself even says "if" we get a season.

Just for once, let one little ray of sunshine on this forum not get clouded over by your doom and gloom, woe is me eeyore depressing attitude.

I don't think anyone actually believes there will be a 2021/22 season but Jesus give it a rest and let people have a tiny bit of hope.

GET A GRIP BUDDY, THIS LOCKDOWNS TWISTING YOUR MELON o_O

Classic Mazzoak - in every Silver Lining there is a (very black) cloud!

2024 for the rest of the world! Where do you think we’ll be shopping for Imports - The darkest corner of Bangladesh or Outer Mongolia ?

Most ‘modern’ nations will be done a lot time before that!

What has Mazzoak said, can’t see anything here, and has been said I started with if we get a season obviously.

Basically l stated discussions on player rosters for 21/22 are premature. Apparently I’m no longer allowed an opinion.....
Basically you misunderstood the topic, its just a light, easy to answer topic.

Like "What NHL player would you like to see sign for the Devils" but your opinion would be "No NHL player would sign for Devils"

Or maybe "What NHL team would you like to see at the IAW playing the Devils" but your opinion would be "They wouldn't waste their time and money coming here"

That's how you answer.

You could have just joined in and said IF there is a season then A, B and C will be back but you don't, you try to shut topics down cause that's who you are, no involvement of any purpose other than to be an........dare i say it........an ass.
That's just my opinion of course . ;)

Just to get this back on topic since KingMo19.1, Pjj365, August04 all decided to take this thread off topic and start talking about the vaccine on page 1
From Wannabes comments a few moments ago on the Any updates on Devils in Europe thread stating Martin will be staying in Norway. I guess he’s not going to return if we have a 21/22 season.
Should both these threads now be linked together since there in essence basically the same.............

Stavanger Oilers season ends in March/April and Joey will see the season out there. Which has nothing at all to do with returning to Cardiff if we are lucky enough to get a 21/22 season. If that season happens ???? I would expect us to see Joey coming home to Cardiff.

I don’t follow European leagues, wasn’t aware their in lockdown and not playing, l assumed starting up meant it was their new regular season and not a continuation of last yr. Thanks for clearing that up.

The future of watching hockey in the UK?
Plans for rapid testing for venues where social distancing is not possible to resume events later in the year.
Hard to see how it will work in practice. Everyone turning up an hour earlier to get results back. Would surely hike up ticket prices too.

Irrespective of the time and cost involved. The sort of operation required for testing all 3,000 plus fans attending a game is not feasible. Our work (a university) have been carrying out 2 tests a week for staff volunteers since before Christmas and the number of testers and space required to do the testing for even a moderate number of fans (2,000+) would not be possible for the IAW on a regular basis.

Interesting, thanks.

Difficult to see what could feasibly be done. The hope obviously is that eventually mass vaccination would be enough, but is that alone going to be enough for 2021/22 I'm not convinced.
But a full arena (with masks even better) is a safer environment than nightclubs surely. If procedures are put in place for nightclubs and theatres then there must be something that can be done.

Myself the talk about nightclubs, theatres is surly pie in the sky, especially nightclubs where people get bladdered and end up falling over each other, hugging each other, and generally wanting to kiss each other to death, if there is a recipe for disaster in today’s environment it’s night clubs. If we get a season 21/22 starting Oct /Nov we will be very lucky indeed. We need to be able to walk into our gaff feeling absolutely safe, and as near to normal as possible and I think that’s also what the club strides for, so many things can change in 8/9 months, and hopefully all for the better but if things are improving even slightly then let’s go forward slightly and in the correct manner. In the meantime all you guys health is the priority here and our amazing club know that, stay safe all we will be together in the future and when that day comes we will as always stand shoulder to shoulder, that’s what makes us THE CARDIFF DEVILS.

Nightclubs & theatres are smaller in capacity to sporting venues.
The issue also is Asymptomatic & presymtomatic carriers who can show no symptoms and pass a negative result, numbers have been coming in showing a small percentage. Then there is the possibility of tests not being carried out correctly, human error etc. All scenarios need to be covered before gatherings of small groups will be allowed, never mind thousands. That’s before any new mutations start........
The silver lining is at least the NHL is on, that maybe the nearest hockey gets for fans for some while yet.

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons:

If the government meets its target for all adults to be vaccinated by August, how soon could we expect a hockey season to start considering the risk of severe covid should be minuscule?

The vaccination programme has been quite remarkable so far. You'd think with warmer weather and the rate of jabs so far, we could be in a far better situation by the summer.

Even if it's a later start to the season like was planned for this year, it might be safe enough to watch hockey even with restrictions like masks and sanitisation stations in place.

Mind you, I said the same exact thing last summer - and we all know how that went...

But the good news is now we have a vaccine and it appears to be working.

Just trying to be positive about it. Lord knows we all need it.
