Devils Vs Storm - League - 1st Nov 25 - FO 19:00

That type of hocky will not get people talking and bums on seats, i over heard a first time viewer who said i am not sure what all the hype is, that was boring!
This type of comment was made al lot last season and the season before and yet every game gets sold out

As for the newcomer , most people who have never been to a game think that there is a fight every five minutes. When I mention to people that I am a hockey fan, the first comment is always " Don't they just beat each other up ?"

I fully understand that people want to be entertained etc......sometimes though , the win is far more important.

Not once did I mention it was a boring game because there was no physicality. I understand teams cant play like that every game, I felt the game was flat, passing was poor, chances we had were not put away. Our PP still needs alot of work. Few players looked shattered and some of our forwards just don't seem to be on the ice at times. maybe from travelling Wednesday. Crowd did try to get behind the team but it hard when there nothing to get behind.

Lines are changing more than bonnie blue knickers. Martin and Sanford don't work together. We don't seem to have a deadly 1st line that put fear into teams, only Barrow, our 3rd and 4th line are doing that.

Personally I couldn't watch that type of game week in week out even if we won every game. There was very little entertainment factor.

Tell you what I did notice last night, had a pint and the devil cups have gone. Assuming too many going missing.

Let's hope yaremko can be fixed by next weekend and lacroix is fit for the scottish triple header. Back to country night it was OK ish, highlight for me and others 2nd period break was country road , lots of devils fans singing that one and we'll applauded at the end of it, could be used again regardless of country night., not fussed on the shirts but shorts and socks were good.

I see that Nic Petan has just been released from Swiss team....Dig deep Todd and co : )
Big old wage in that league no doubt.

Ambri been a bit of a mess to start this season.

Davos on the other hand are flying. Still keep in touch with some of their fans who joined us on Devils away trips.

Just spoke to a friend who went to one of her first games and her words were , 'it wasn't the best, they were all too polite skating around each other' which was spot on. Problem is every game is a so called hell out.

Seen a few empty seats around the rink, probably season tkt holders not giving up seats for resale

Okay so I don’t if I’m missing an in joke or I’m just first to bite but why do you insist on calling Sanford STanford???
Maybe it’s just your autocorrect??
Only bothers me because I tend to have to re-read it to correct it in my head :)
No offence intended btw, call him what you like

1st period not great no hits and pretty boring, 2nd period Barrow puts in a big hit only one of the night by us, huge hit on Brandt, and a huge hit on Barrow, we go 2-1 up lovely goal by Sanford, 3rd period and a beaut by Olichefski not a great game though. My expectations now have taken a big dip, and if I get entertained and watch a really good game then that now will be a bonus. Think the lads are putting in the effort, but we look very disjointed, and at times pretty lost, we may be carrying injuries, but most teams have to contend with that. So all in all so far the season has been pretty boring for me anyway, and sometimes I wonder am I going out of habit, and to see friends. So we live in hope but being realistic I reckon we are a 4th placed team at best, and the sooner I realise that the better. HOCKEY DAYS.

Post COVID We did not renew our season tickets knowing that health issues would mean we could not take full advantage

What came as a surprise was that we sort of didn't miss the ST. There was no internalised pressure to go to a game because we had paid or it was habit.

When we could get them and we were fit enough we bought one game tickets and were selective in the games we chose. At those games it was great to catch up with friends. And that catch up and break time gossip up we miss

The point being other than that I did not miss going every week and live streams - carefully selected - provided the fix

So I get your sentiment and would suggest you are not alone

The Denim like bottom half was brilliant. The shirt - does it really matter?
The event produces tremendous sales being as whole squad of shirts to win - and some charity benefits.

With nothing on the CC cup game against Guildford, I wasn't convinced that Stoever starting against the Storm was the selection I would have gone for - unless Bowns has picked up an knock.
Good to see Sanford find the net, Mosey's goal was a play of beauty and Olichevski's goal was good reward for his efforts. In my mind there's no question MacDonald is fighting the puck too much and his desperation to score is inhibiting his natural talents.
On the downside, losing Yaremko so early on, necessitated changes that some posters may not have been aware of and inevitably changes to lines in a game do take time to settle. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a polished performance, but a wins a win and 2 points in the league are welcome anytime - I guess you can't please all fans all the time.
I know officiating is difficult, bit how soft were Ions' calls in the 3rd - having let all kinds of misdemeanours go unpunished in the first 2 periods, to then call the weakest of calls - I felt sorry for the Storm having to put up with Ions' ineptitude. That said, Wells wasn't a great deal better.
As many have commented, the jerseys were dreadful and to my way of thinking were more closely appropriate for a team of Lumberjacks. Sadly, I think Todd will see the whole Country Themed evening as a success and it will become a regular event in coming years.

As for the entertainment I dont think its isolated to just devils, ive watched and played hockey since late 90s and its a different game now, the game is played a lot different now with the way teams break out of zone etc and players seem to carry the puck longer, but I dont think the level of physicality there used to be over here would be sustainable for the amount of games they now play with league and challenge cup. I doubt the challenge cup will ever go because teams need the revenue but if there was less games per season and players got more rest I think the games would be more entertaining.

The chances of us bringing someone else in is probably slim now. Revenue will be down a lot this year, with no extra Challenge Cup games, no Conti, CHL etc. We've probably lost a salary or two easily.

You'd think the only way we'd get anyone else in (a sniper) we'd need to get rid of someone, which might be exactly what we need to do to light a fire under some arses.

This is the point...if it raises money, then great. From an aesthetics point of view, I've seen more gaudy jerseys than that. Check Clan and Flyers tartan outfits from previous seasons.

There were some buying £50 worth of tickets on Saturday it's a one off like you say nobody forced to buy soho.
Would be interesting to see if sales were up on Saturday

At least we know these are 100% gameworn, far too many jerseys(new logo especially) are said to be gameworn when clearly they are not. Used to be rare to see a gamer, now they are everywhere.

I notice Todd is on the podcast this week with the FB page inviting questions.

Credit to Todd I haven’t seen him shy away from answering anything he’s asked.
