I enjoyed the game tonight.
I thought we did OK but our finishing needs to improve.
Long way to go yet.
Funny how everyone sees games differently.

I thought it was a really poor and passive game, the type that if you bring your mates to for their first experience they leave wondering what all the hype is about.

I would have thought after the amount of pre- season we’ve had we’d have a bit more about us by now - maybe a bit harsh given the GB games came into it.

Bowns played very well, interesting that even if Carruth was fit you probably wouldn’t be swapping things around to much at the moment.
I prefer the look of most of our D pairings than I do the forward lines but I’m sure that will click soon enough.

That was the first pre-season game that felt like a pre-season game. Never felt like we got out of 3rd gear and players not fully committed physically in case they risked an injury.

We actually started well, got the early goal and dominated possession for opening 30. But Nottingham shut us down, restricted our chances and soaked up the pressure. And then towards the end of the 2nd they upped their game and started to cause problems. Typical Danny Stewart team.

I think the pre season being 4 weekends of games makes it feel a big one but I think the GB games have been really disruptive to that. I know it’s the same for other teams to varying degrees but when you think week 1 would be a getting to know you week, settling in, testing, etc. week 2 is a GB camp so who knows how that works whether GB players trained twice for each club, week 3 is a GB Olympic camp so 7 down plus coach and then this last week is only the second full week together as a squad likely. 1 more week and into the business….

And that's why other teams have started challenge cup games this weekend as we're better prepared and no GB interference as much as the devils .

That’s spot on for me, think a few more weeks hopefully we will see a more settled and finished team, as i already mentioned Bownsy kept us in that game, he is back to his very best at the moment. On a positive note these crowds are immense, and our owners are most certainly keeping up with the Joneses. Hope tonight is a different story.

The biggest single factor affecting the flow of pre-season was the GB preparation/warmup period. A poor decision for teams to even be playing games when some of their players were on international duty. Even in pre-season games, a short benched team is exposed to the possibilty of injuries and fatigue. Also our Head Coach ( who happens to be Team GB Head Coach) has therefore not been around too much to make judgements on pairings, performance etc.

In saying that, other teams were also affected by absences short benches and new players....... and still managed to have a reasonable pre-season (Steelers, Giants,Blaze). On results alone, Devils' pre-season has been disappointing, but with glimpses of what could happen when our players are set and systems refined. Whilst these games don't really matter in terms of ranking etc, they are important in settling players, reviewing systems, judging pairings and lines. Hope all this had had a positive affect on preparation because the serious stuff starts next week.

I'm not as concerned about results vs Steelers and Giants per se as the Steelers had a much more settled roster coming into the season and only lost 2 skaters I believe to GB (and replaced one with an import from the steeldogs). I am more concerned in the fact we couldn't break down Nottingham yesterday as it was a mirror image of some of our games against the Blaze last season. If want to be serious contenders we MUST find a way to break down teams playing to this system...otherwise it's going to be a long (and boring) season! Dumping to the corners aiming to regather possession didn't work last season and it won't again this season...would much rather us use our pace on the wings to go around the outside or cut in ice.

Lots of talent on this team but the chemistry is not there yet. GB duties has disrupted the benefit of pre-season games. The passing was good but the finishing was not there.
Defensively I though we looked stronger than last year and only conceding one goal in regulation reflects that.

And the fact their netminder played really well . Could be another besko on the horizon.
