Oh come on mate, don't be a bloody stick in the mud! If people want to come in, have a drink and make some noise I say let them. You can't complain about the lacking of atmosphere but then complain that young lads come down and enjoy themselves! We need to be more inviting, I see too much of this devils elitism.
No problem with people having a drink and enjoying themselves but when their only intention is to get pissed, not even watch the game, and effect the enjoyment of people around them who do want to watch it, then I have a real problem with that. And it’s becoming more and more common at Saturday night games.

Yep, exactly. When we were in the WNIR it was quite normal to see people dressed up for a Saturday night that started after the game but I don’t remember this problem during the game.... no problem with having a drink but intensely annoying when people are unable to hold their alcohol....

Flyers lost Buesa a couple of weeks back following a Fitzgerald hit. Think he's expected to be out 6 weeks. He brings a lot of energy and has been missed. Then Schaber (our captain) pulled up in the Nottingham game. Not sure exactly what happened but told he was carried to the dressing room which doesn't bode well. That's when Panthers got back in the game. He's the heartbeat of the team and a big influence in the room. We'll miss much more than his points. That pretty much killed any chance of 3 line hockey for us on Sunday and messed our lines up. Add in the lack of sleep/recovery time due to the early face off and it was never going to end well.
Safe to say that what you saw was not team that made it to 1st place with games in hand. I think next time you see us in Cardiff we'll be on game 3 in 3 days so could be same again! In Fife though...
But virtually the same Flyers team that lost to the Devils won against Panthers the previous night. You can only play what is in front of you. Recall MK Lightening having a ridiculous travel schedule (and therefore recovery time) earlier this season but beat a team in their final game of 4 games in 7 days.

The return of one player is not going to make a massive difference to performances, even if he is the captain. And most teams are playing short benched for many games now. Anyway, where was the Flyers' top forward line on Sunday....aren't they in the top 5 point scorers in the league?

Flyers certainly deserve to be challenging near the top - but they have defensive weaknesses and lack of depth in certain areas which may cause problems if injuries strike. Flyers are a hot team at the moment....but put simply, on the night, they were beaten by a better team.

Sorry, but the last thing I want to do is spend time around young lads out drinking being macho in their own minds when actually they’re being a noisy nuisance. I’m spending good money to enjoy hockey not avoid beer spilling loud mouthed young men on a night out. Plenty for them to do in the city centre.

I’m amazed to hear the arguments today for laws to be changed to allow football supporters to drink on the terraces (they may have seats but they’re not used). Oh how some people have short memories. How I long for the WNIR days when alcohol was not allowed in the stands - no need for it - it’s a family sport - if you want to drink then hang around after the game has finished.

Amen to that, although I take a beer into the Arena with me,

Sorry but that's ridiculous. They would have spent the same amount of money as you in watching the game. They might not be hockey fans, might be their first game and they are on a night out. Just because they are not there for the same reasons you are doesn't make them a nuisance. Sport is for everyone, not just for you.

And I'm confused about what you want hockey to be, a sport where fighting is encouraged by most fans, and players saying the most obscene things to each other on the ice, but you want to ban the fans drinking in the seats and being loud?

I get where he’s coming from. Some people only go to the game to get pissed and have zero interest in watching the hockey. I’ll never forget 2 years ago during the Manchester Storm game an incident occurred in my Block where a bunch of drunk idiots started swearing in front of kids and using obscene gestures. That is where security need to step in. We repeatedly told security and nothing was done. I also recall an incident when a fan tipped beer on another fans head in another block and Kelman told the security to escort them out of the rink. If thy are there to watch the hockey then fair enough and by all means have a few drinks, but there’s having a few pints to getting absolutely smashed and ruining a game night experience for others.

I do not spend £130 odd pounds for a night of listening to a group of men on the night out drinking copious amounts of alcohol. You might think that’s ok for your money but I’d rather enjoy watching the hockey thanks however ridiculous you think that might be.

And where on earth do you get the impression I’m encouraging fighting? I’ve spent my money to watch hockey not listen to drunken young men; if I’d want that then I’d save my money and go into the town centre.

And that’s the hammer on the head, ruining a game night experience for others, when other people are effected that’s the time for action to be taken.

Surely the whole point of security is for door duties and these such incidents just for a quiet word, a presence, a calm down lads. It doesn't have to be strong arm by any means

And the point I was making is why should drinking in the stands not be allowed just because you don't like it? It's only ar football where this isn't allowed, every other sporting or entertainment events I can think of has bars. Everyone is there for a night of entertainment.

And I didn't mean you personally, I meant generally. Hockey is a sport where players crash in to each other at high speed, punch each other in the face, and say some pretty horrible things to each other. You're happy to sit there and watch that, but not happy with someone drinking a beer close to you?

I agree, if things get out of control, security need to step in. And they need to do a better job than they're currently doing. However incidents like that are rare. I was challenging Devils_abroad on his view that alcohol should not be allowed in the seats under any circumstances, which is ridiculous.

Why on earth do people have to get drunk at every oppertunity? I know grown adults who dress up and get hammered for Halloween. What has become of society?

I think it depends on the block you sit in too. I never see it in block 1 but we are mostly season ticket holders

I don't think getting drunk at Halloween is a new thing to be honest. I've managed bars since 1995 and even back in the first bar i managed 23 years ago there was always a Halloween party night. Not new at all. I think Halloween lasting for days is the problem, Halloween is on a Wednesday so parties will either be on the Saturday before or Saturday after and also parties on the night itself.

Anyway, how did this thread about a game last weekend get on to drunks at Halloween?

Well the club obviously listened to those concerned about too many groups of people getting drunk at games - they’re advertising group bookings including stag nights today! Just what we need.

Drunks in general ruining things for people. The 90s was my era. I would regularly attend a heavy rock themed night club. I don't ever remember a Halloween event there. Maybe a new thing here in sunny England?

August04 post is worrying as it is, disappointing.
