You cannot label that OT goal solely at Jake’s door. Fournier had a coverage and communication brain fart as well. But Fournier is a fan favourite so gets a pass as standard. His stats I have no problem with as like mentioned he’s in an adapted role. I would however raise and would like to see Jake’s captaincy and leadership coming to the fore. It’s not his game but I would like to see Jake setting a physical agenda on teams and playing the rat so to speak. Lead by example on the physicality the team needs to play with especially in the offensive zone and take all the excuses of the table for your team mates. That way when he speaks in the room he can do it from a position of strength and respect.

I am guessing without knowing that our PK stats are right up there, as usual
This isn't to call you out in the slightest but i've found the info so wanted to share it :)

/edit - i've just realized the table formats horribly, sorry for that...
All the info is here though: http://elite.wttstats.pointstreak.com/prostatstext/leaguereport_18470.txt

TL;DR version:

Home PP - 6th
Away PP - 1st
Overall PP - 2nd (Devils - 27.0%, Belfast 27.1%)

Home PK - 9th
Away PK - 6th
Overall PK - 8th

Interestingly our PK is pretty poor!!!
However, as per the bottom chart - we have the lowest PIMS per game of any team, so our sample size is smaller & we are less likely to concede a PK in the first place.

I thought the first Guildford goal was a PP goal - Devils were given a 2 minute bench minor at 0:13 and the goal was scored at 2:08 with a few seconds left of the power play.
I took it off the EIHL website, so it's probably wrong.

I missed a good chunk of the first period - midweek game and M4 being down to 1 lane :( :( :(

"The Flames made it 1-0 on the ensuing powerplay with Jesse Craige scoring at 2:13 just as Matt Pope was about to step back onto the ice. "

It is wrong on the EIHL website.

As soon as hotham left us I said Fournier will shine and be our main d man,
By god he is doing that and scoring a lot of points along the way too.

Great result let’s hope we get a big body in for the weekend and beat giants,

One quick question though how long till moriseette finds his form??
It’s been 23 games and all he has scored is an empty net goal.

Terrible
I thought Mo played very well tonight

Yes I understand kettdevil1, the other week he was playing 3 on 3 overtime and cost us a goal by not tracking his man,

Why the hell is he playing in overtime when he haven’t scored a goal??

We are looking to win the game and we play a guy who can’t score in a brothel at the moment,
Don’t make sense to me
Wow don't mince your words will you!! Mo has a different role this year, maybe you should look at how he Plays on the ice?? Instead of just slating him for not hitting the back of the net

Huge win. Mental hurdle maybe winning in OT again. Think there are still some question marks but they can wait for another day. Big night too with giants losing. Fournier proving why he’s the best D man in the league yet again. I think Lordo has a lot to work on but we’re sitting pretty right now and not at our best yet!

No Kemp on the bench, as someone said, I hear he has signed back in Coventry where he is from.

All in all, a great night for us.

I want to know how he keeps getting icetime ahead of other players?
His stats are absolute garbage and as a captain imo he does nothing
He probably does a lot more than what we see on the ice as captain. His role has also completely changed from previous years. We no longer rely on him as a talisman for the team as we've upgraded significantly in that department over the past 2 years. He's essentially become a shutdown offensive man, good on the fore check and one of the best forwards in our own end defensively.

What are your thoughts on Myers' lack of points the past 23 games?

Can someone explain the rules on how that first penalty - the one Pope sat instead of Martin, is classed as a bench minor?

New rule it was a delay of game for 2 face off violations, players moving before the puck was dropped
Ta, but given that Joey M was given the warning I don't follow why it's assessed as a bench. I guess it's one of those "it just is" things.

Martin seemed to have a lot of issues with this last night, every face-off there was something.

The officiating overall was terrible, and the linemen were no better.

I'd guess cuz hes one of the few players that always puts the effort in every game, finishes his checks, blocks shots, etc. Its not all about points, especially when you play down the line.
Myers puts the same amount of effort in if not more as does the likes of Duggan and Moore but they barely get a shift. Nothing against Mo but he’s long past his sell by date. Give the captaincy to either Myers Dixon or Joey Martin

Don’t like to slate refs as it’s a thankless job but Hogarth & Rose left me speechless at times tonight. The standard of the EIHL is getting better each year but IMO the officials are struggling and need help.

Not sure what the answer is but surely the EIHL needs to start looking aboard. Schmejkal came over for a few season and the way he ref’d was a breathe of fresh air.
I sincerely hope the league directs the officiating towards zero tolerance of all the holding, grabbing, slashing, etc. that must be an utter nightmare of a grey area to referee. Sooner we move to the CHL/NHL level of tolerance on these infringements the better I think personally. Lets see the skill guys play, not get grabbed or whacked all the time.

The Captaincy to Joey or Matthew rears its head every now and again and rightly so. Even though we may want it, we all know it wont happen and why it wont happen.

If you want a great illustration of on-ice leadership, look no further than Blair Riley at the Giants. Yes, they lost last night, but that man is a fantastic leader. In Keefe's mould - and he was a great captain too.

Who has the Captaincy is almost irrelevant for me. Leaders will always lead regardless of what’s on their jersey. I can’t see our leaders changing their personalities over the sake of a letter on a jersey.

I see the main role of who has the C or an A is their communication and relationship with the refs.

We had something very similar to this in a ball hockey team i used to play for.

We had several 'leaders', and guys who could really guide a team, however only 2-3 people that knew ALL of the rules, and had the right persona to speak to a referee without telling him what you really thought.

Mo' deserves to keep the captaincy. In every year as captain we have won the league & he VERY rarely loses his cool and always looks to be speaking to a referee rather than arguing or gesturing - and this is what the referees want.

"Line leaders" (players like Martin, Linglet etc. that dictate the play and tell guys where they want them) are very different to captains - in my opinion.

Being given a C on the ice doesn't give you a shred more respect in a hockey locker room, only to the fans watching. Let the leaders on the ice keep on leading & let the captain keep doing his bit.

Back to the game, in O/T after the penalty was killed I thought you were supposed to go back to 3 on 3 at next stop in play but instead flames also went to 4 players and it was 4 on 4! Have I missed a finer rule point. I have tried to look this up but no answer other than reffing mess up

Believe it goes 4 on 4 to next stoppage then, absent another penalty, it reverts to 3 on 3
Makes sense. How do you quickly get one man out of the box and off the ice without messing up play and by the same token how do you get 1 man off the ice at exactly the right time
