In fairness Keefe has apologised over on THF;
Appologies for the initial post, on second glance its a tad over the top, I think I just took exception to Finnys crass physical discription of people he neither knows or has met... its not nice being fat, when thats the only way people can describe you it gets a little infuriating.
I retract my comments about the guys in block 2, and you know what, this is what we miss in Nottingham. At first I was shocked that they were singing "you fat b***ard", but then realised that it was "Panther", credit where credit is due, a great way to wind up the opposing fans without breaking the rules! lol. So to eat humble pie, fair play to them and again, credit where its due, they did a good job of getting the place going!
In terms of being bitter due to the result, not bitter at all.... we deserved what we got! We consistantly sit the best d man we have in place of the waste of space that is Mario! When you lot were singing "Mario is a chicken", we all joined in with you! Corey took a stupid pen which cost us the first goal, so on and so forth. I thought your D played fantastic and did what they needed to do. For the first 15 mins we played well and had you on the back foot, simply because we played the chippy game, got in the dark areas and played it dirty. In my opinion, the only way to beat Cardiff in Cardiff is to play the game on the edge, get the chirps in, the stick working, wind them up as thats the only thing that will break them down... Trying to play fancy hockey against a big team on a small pad will just end up in you being pushed flat against the boards or being on your backside.
As for the announcer, I stand by what I have said. To goad the away fans is out of order, to blatantly lie is childish, and to carry it on is disgraceful. I spoke with Shannon Hope about it and he understood our points and had a work. It wasnt just the "lets go devils" chant over the mic, it was the only one of you singing? not many come down! remarks, the fact that he told a steward that one of the fans had been swearing at him none stop and to throw him out!!!! the fan in question has never sworn in his life, doesnt know that many words starting with F let alone an offensive one! Even Cardiff fans told the steward that at no point had he sworn! The stewards acted on what they had been told, and responded accordingly, but what followed was wrong and not a way to manage a hockey crowd. I know things get out of hand and things are often exagerated, but for the announcer to then look directly at the fan being escorted downstairs and start laughing at him is out of order, and not something I have ever known in Cardiff!
Lets be honest, you lot have never needed much of a helping hand starting an atmosphere, and the old barn was awash with noise, this new guy doesnt have to turn into Simmsy and doesnt need to do the constant calls for noise that we have in Nottingham, Sheffield and Belfast! With Simmsy I have just stopped going to Sheffield unless its the other bloke doing the announcing as it often is now. Simmsy just seems to be untouchable, seems to be able to do what he want and get away with it! This is starting to back fire on them though as the crowds prove. The guy at Newcastle made a public appology for his mistakes, same as ours in Nottingham had to many years ago. Eric the organist got banned and cost the team a bench minor for playing 3 blind mice one, and the Galaxy FM guy at Manchester got fired and an appology made when he went to far. Simmsy however has got away with it for years, and always will, so whats the point chasing a hopeless cruisade! With Cardiff you have never been like Sheffield and I for one wouldnt want you turning into another arena team!
I like going to cardiff for the old school hockey and fans! I was one of the fans that did the banner that we all signed for the WNIR, we have made some good friends and we all miss echo... this is what we liked about it. I just dont see how this announcer fits the traditional ethos of Cardiff.... in the past, if someone has wanted to say something, the fans have always been capable!
