Yeah it was easier for Welsh kids to break through in the heineken era but look at Myers, look at Phillips. They both did alright, so it's not impossible. But if the club continue to poach youth from other regions it soon will be.

The EIHL have posted revised guidlines for entry to CHL and Challenge Cup next year.
My brain is a bit rusty on Monday mornings so as i read it now the league 3rd place now becomes an avenue for entry.
If i am reading this correctly there is now a dogfight for 3rd place between 5 teams assuming they want it.

I’m not sure the CHL and Jr Devils development are mutually exclusive.
Success brings fresh eyes to the game (just compare the BBT crowds with what we get today) and this will naturally lead to more interest in playing the game. Even I’ve bought some skates and I’m nearly 30. You can all rest assured though that I will never make an appearance for any team, so the Devils are safe.
Unfortunately, Wales is a limited talent pool where sports have seen a decline in participation across the board. As much as I sound like and old man saying it, kids want to play on their Xbox or PS4’s these days, that is the new socialising.
So it will take investment and a long time before there is a system in place, and that system will take time again to produce any talent.
So I don’t think the short term spend on the CHL has a negative consequence for the development of talent.
I think the Calgary 4 and Todd have taken more of an interest in the junior ranks than has been present for many years, but that is going to be very much a long term project.

I take it all back oj. Our inclusion in the chl may just produce the next Matthew Myers then when they play NHL 2020 and see the Cardiff Devils in the chl tournament mode.

In all seriousness though if we get out of the group stage this year l will be one of the first on here to congratulate the club and apologise to the regular posters for my opinions regarding our participation (providing l'm not banned by then). They have to do it first though.

I’d be disappointed if you were banned.

I’d also be surprised if they recognised any of the players from NHL games. Let’s just say our players don’t exactly get a lot of character modelling time.

But there’s always a selfish element to this, and Bern away was one of my favourite sporting experiences ever, so I’ll take another one of them again any season.
