Carruth suspended

whoever recorded the footage deliberately cut the audio from the clip before posting it online. There's only one reason for doing that. To hide abuse being shouted by the fans.
I imagine the young lady and the family merely said "excuse me Mr Carruth. You aren't having a very good game today" and that was it. Carruth therefore has over reacted. That poor helpless family.

It’s disappointing that the modern culture of ‘corporate example setting’ and the associated aspect of wishing to appear whiter than white and torch-bearers of purity often exacerbates situations like this.

I’ve been to almost every rink in the U.K. and seen numerous times kids, adolescents and parents hurling horrific abuse and profanities at players - and I’ve seen many players backchat and get re-abused.

Difference these days is it captured by smart phone and provided as sole-evidence to the online world without full context. Baiting and snaring an individual to suit your own agenda then publicising it. Pathetic really and the girls parents need to have a good hard look at themselves.

Mac might be a Devils player, but he’s also an individual and shouldn’t be abused in the workplace - just like you and I in our occupations.

When were you in the locker room?
During the kit sales, oh you mean how do I know people's are just making shit up? It's really not that difficult to tell the difference, if he was that disruptive in the locker room he'd never of been contracted back it's common sense

@James et Al is there a function on here to conduct a poll?

I think there may be a split between fans about whether what Mac did was wrong or not or was harmless ....

But I'd be more interested to know what the fanbase thinks the club should do about it. A poll may be helpful (albeit obviously not all Devils fans are on here!).

Do we want Mac to be exonerated; slap on the wrist; or sacked?

I genuinely think if the club take this issue further, they are done for. This is a non-issue blown out of proportion (I note the irony that I've brought this back up after a day or so of the thread being quiet!) and if a quality NM like Mac is let go 1 year in to what is presumably a multi year deal, for pointing at his mouth....

It'll do more damage to our reputation amongst players (that we won't back them, we will hang them out to dry for a tiny mistake) and will set us back when trying to recruit quality.

I hope that come Monday there's a statement putting this to bed.

Alas we live in a world of 'wokeness' and 'virtue signalling'!
To be fair, being 'woke' is something we should all aspire to be. Woke means being aware and sympathetic of societal issues. It's only recently that a section of society have successfully adopted the term to reference those that care about things that are (what used to be called 'wooly' or 'hippy') against their own views.

Perfect example: a societal issue that involves a minority, or persecuted/oppressed section of society is domestic violence - massive issue back in the day (Little Mo and that Trevor fella etc). So is domestic violence a woke issue? Does being against wife beating make me woke?

Happy to be labelled woke in that case.

Is it woke to be against racism? Or is it woke to try and treat people with dignity?

Or has 'wokeness' been adopted as the successor to 'political correctness'.....

Being woke is being nice. Being 'anti-woke' by extension (if we look at the above example) means you (not referring to any individual poster) probably supported Trevor when he was beating 7 bells out of Little Mo.

Most people (I think) don't hate many other people. They don't hate the opposite sex or people who are a different colour or religion. At least I like to think so. The weaponisation of the term woke is another tool for dividing the masses so we hate people who haven't hurt us and ignore the people who are messing up our lives ....

Bloke down the street from me, goes to his synagogue, goes to work, pays his taxes, his kids go to school...his family are great and they contribute to our society. But he's different from me in the eyes of some people so I should hate him? Should be afraid of him?

Sorry for a little lecture out of my system there.

Yes there is a way, but a new thread would have to be started and in all honesty I don't see what there is to be gained from that at this stage?

It's pretty clear from here alone, and I haven't bothered to check the bin fire that is Twitter, that minds are already made up so having a poll only seems like another way for everyone to have a go at each other over something we seemingly have little information about at the moment other than the statement from the club and a random twitter account.

I genuinely don't know, but perhaps there is more to this than just the single video that has made its way onto Twitter? Seems like the club wouldn't have jumped the gun quite so quickly over just one thing? That doesn't sound like something we've done before?

Do we know if Carruths contract was for more than a year when it was announced?

Out of interest, how do you know the club haven't had access to the footage first?

Genuine question.
I didn’t say anything about footage. Club statement - suspended whilst they undertake a full investigation.

My comment was along the lines of investigate first then if he’s done something wrong suspend him, ie innocent until proven guilty!

All the public debate is stirring up speculation and rumour, and people's opinions will be based on what bare facts they know. There will be much much more that we don't know. Whatever we feel personally about the situation, it is common practice in companies to suspend an individual pending investigation. Respect Mac and the Club by letting them deal with it.

Well speaking to fans at giants game quite a few are not buying that this pointing at teeth thing has brought mac a ban, and obviously other rumours fact or fiction are going around..really thought the investigation would've been done and dusted by now after all it happened Wednesday, think the quicker we get answers to the situation would be better for all concerned and get doing what the devils and mac does best and continue to the season end with no more distractions, just saying

Totally see your point but it's what's ifs and could be fiction, in all honesty the club should of asked for the video footage before doing anything, and I'm not talking about the one that's been edited either it should be a case of if they don't provide the unedited footage that has the original audio in it then nothing would be done.

I personally feel like this was a knee jerk reaction by the club especially as carruth does alot of work with kids hockey clubs, yes hes a bit of a wild card when his emotions are running high, he's still a human that's being the target of so called fans who are just making up things to gaslight and stroke their own ego.

Devils 86 post above:
Thanks for you views on the word ‘woke’
I am sure many of us on here are a little wiser as to what it means. I still struggle !

It was briefly mentioned on the webcast and it sounded like Carruth had admitted doing it. And that he regretted doing it. But Franny also pointed out how much time Carruth gives up for young fans, not just ours but opposition fans too.

It’s fairly normal practise for someone to be suspended on full pay whilst such an investigation takes place isn’t it?

Not sure about the full pay thing but I can tell you from personal experience that when ever I've had my daughter or my friends daughter's or even my mates asking if mac could sign something for them he's always jumped at the chance and spent time with fans and been a gentle giant.

completely disagree , being woke , is being none tolerant of others and not being able to compromise , and not being able to except people are different, and the killing of free speech and defence of once person .being woke is they can do and say what they want and your not allowed to defend your self. if i was carruth id leave the club and i dont blame him ,if this was football this decision would be end of the premiership. it would be impossible to play any games.
