I’m a tad concerned if Perlini is leaving mind. Yes, he was a tad hot and cold last year, but he still put up 13 goals and 22 assists for us last year. There are not many brits putting up anywhere near those numbers recently so we’d have to get them back in other areas. And giving those points back to a challenging Panthers doesn’t help. I hope he is back, somehow. lol.

Looking more into Sam’s stats last season shows his importance as a role player - a shut-down player, not a scorer.
Despite playing a lot on the PK he was still 6th overall forward in the whole league for conceding the fewest goals for his ice time - expressed as goals he conceded per 60 minutes of his ice time his figure was 1.77 – the best Devil in this category.
In the PK section he only conceded 5 powerplay goals against all season – only Ben Davies and Riley Brandt were better regular penalty-killing forwards.

It's all about different roles for different players. He is an aggressive defensive forward with a specialist role on the PK. The role of the 4th line means that goal scoring opportunities are secondary to puck possession and puck carrying away from the defensive zone and shutting down oppnsition chances. He is not designed to be a goal machine like MacDonald or Sanford.
Well said ASHIPP, and very true, the saying horses for courses is spot on in this conversation, some players are there to keep the opposition from scoring and to give the star players a breather. One thing that can never be said about Duggan is that he can’t be bothered and he doesn’t care, he plays with his heart on his sleeve and plays for the shirt, every team needs grinders and that’s what you get with Sam.
I by no means meant my post as a negative against Duggan. I am simply stating that if we are now going without Perlini next year as part of our overall Brit contingent, we will very likely have to find that point production in other areas, most likely with our incoming imports. Mind, hoping Harewood can contribute in this area too with consistent ice time.
I fully understand and appreciate Duggan’s role in this team and his contribution to the balance of the team - he’s bloody good at it too. I am also glad to see him back next year also.
