Build an ice rink in Aberystwyth!

Aberystwyth lies in the middle of an 80 mile 'ice pad vacuum' radius.
The 3 closest ice rinks to Aberystwyth are:
1. Deeside - 84 Miles
2. Telford - 91 Miles
3. Cardiff - 110 Miles

It is safe to say that this region of Wales provides little to zero opportunities for on ice activities: be it public skating, ice hockey or even on ice productions.
Roughly 60% of Aberystwyth's population is a transient student one and in the tourist months the seaside town sees many visitors. Both of these demographics are have significant disposable incomes and could provide the bulk of the financial support that an Aberystwyth ice rink would require.

We all know that an ice rink in the UK serves many more people than just the town or cities it lies in. We know, for example that Cardiff's BBT sees people from all over South Wales travel to use its facility. So when one considers this, the proposed rink would serve a population of 160,000 within a 25 miles radius of Aberystwyth.

UPDATE:
For those of you who care, my campaign has attracted a fair bit of attention now and I'm working on a big piece for Aberystwyth University's student newspaper which should be in next months issue. My petition is now over 280 signatures and the people of Aberystwyth are taking notice.

There are a few people in Aber and the surrounding area who travel miles to ice rinks in order to skate and play. If anyone know someone who does this, tell them about the campaign and get them to contact me.

Thought I'd bump this post seeing as the campaign has been quiet over the Christmas period.

The facebook page has surpassed 100 likes over the weekend, number of people who have signed the petition now number 341 and the twitter is not doing to badly with 62 followers.

It's a modest start but there is clearly interest and I've had a great response from the people of Aberyswyth who generally accept that the town 'town needs more things like this' when it comes to a potential ice rink.

Some people say it's too expensive, although a £500,000 investment for the renovation of an outdoor skate park was proposed by the council so a rink is not as far fetched as it may seem.
