Rumours & Offseason Nonsense 2018/19

I think Thompson has a relatively easy job next year. He has cleared out a load of really high earners and aging players. They just came to the end of their cycle; the likes of Fretter, Valdix, Fitzgerald et al are all league and play off winners - players that beat our own team to the league 2 seasons ago - a team that we all fawn over.

It's too easy to say he didn't do his homework when really it was just a case of a year too many for a lot of players, which you don't know until that season. Now he has the wages of those high earners available, players who due to their age and family circumstances are expensive. They've got their Brits sorted - most would walk into any team in the league. Expectations are probably at their lowest ever in Sheffield and they'll see this as a rebuilding year. Any trophy will be seen as a bonus.

I'd say Lord has the hardest job next year; expectations here are massive, bigger than Sheffield. Fans expect us to win every trophy and entertain - the hysteria at the beginning of the season proved that. Fans who fanboy over the clubs every move now were saying very different things in September/October. We have to compete in the CHL and have every team trying to better us. Our player's wage demands have gone up after so much success too.

Cardiff and Andrew Lord has rocked British ice hockey the league is improving year on year, two of the biggest teams in EIHL have had to rebuild due to our success.

I can see a lot of teams using the Fife model I.E a very busy goalie and a young fast skating team that are more affordable due to being single and without "commitments" this is what Sheffield are looking at doing.

As far as players expecting more money there is no guarantee that they will be as effective on another team chemistry and culture can massively affect morale and playing. If players want more money then fine but there is a lot of players waning to play for us, whilst money is great being looked after and treated properly is also huge too, remember the Devils have never gassed a player and the club have looked after our injured players too Tyson was sent to a specialist in Canada for conclusion treatment.

I am looking forward to next season it will be a massive challenge to repeat our success but watching GB get promotion was amazing and partly due to a better on ice product, I would like to see our team ice some faster skaters this probably upset the toughness brigade lol.

Looks a very good player, if it’s true it would be a very good signing. It’s a real tribute to the club that so many players are interested in coming to Cardiff. With our nice home, awesome owners, and off ice staff, things are looking pretty neat.

Not a new rumor but the Belfast Telegraph are reporting that Jackson Whistle and his brother are joining the Steelers.

I didn’t think his brother would count as a Brit, but if he does sign for them surely he does as they wouldn’t waste an import slot on someone unproven like him surely?

Heard similar, as posted a few days ago. Interesting to see he was a coach in Denmark two season ago, might be part of the management team also if he signs.

Reddick is the natural swap IMO.

I don't see Reddick going anywhere. I think he could be a possible replacement for Paris, who probably won't get a new contract, or Hotham retiring.

EDIT: I really hope Reddick stays! Had a shaky start to the season, but he proved himself to be a devil to his core, come the end of the season

I’d take him over Reddick and Paris combined Reddick is a good player but he’s not good enough for the Devils I feel. He’s too much of an offensive defenseman who is caught out of position too many times. He’s too weak around the boards. If he was to come back I do think he’d struggle if Strachan doesn’t come back. One thing I do like about Reddick is that despite his height he’s always willing to stick up for his teammates which I like to see. He led the team in fights I believe. This Montgomery however would be an amazing pickup. He has everything Reddick has and more. As for Paris what can I say...

Heard a rumour that Reddick was initially signed as a forward. Scott Hotham was meant to be staying on but did a u turn when his wife got offered a good job back at home. Reddick then had to drop back to D. If the rumours true it does explain why it took a while for him to settle.

There are people still not sold on Reddick?!

He was quietly putting in MOTM performances week in and week out from January/February onwards, and if we drop him I’d be very surprised if he didn’t have his pick of EIHL teams to go to.

Anyway, if Montgomery comes in as Assistant what does that mean for Piggsy and Jamie?

Feel like 25 points in a mid table Danish team isn’t filling me with confidence on him.
