In his first year of coaching, Chris took a position as an Assistant Coach with his old Major Midget team the Cape Breton Tradesmen in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

The Tradesmen team were coming off a very disappointing 2 win, 4 point season the previous year that probably cost them a couple of possible returning players. However, they had a much more successful season and won some big games down the stretch to move into 6th place. They had 12 wins and 2 OT losses to end up with 26 points. During the season they beat 3 of the top 4 teams and also lost a couple of games to them in OT. They clearly made progress scoring 47 more goals while giving up 45 less.

They lost in their playoffs 4 games to 1, against the 3rd place Cape Breton West team who were national champions last year and who won a huge invitational tournament this season just after Christmas.
