2017/2018 Rumours & Offseason nonsense

Brine is a PK specialist and was voted as the most defensive forward whilst playing in another league, his face off skills are also very good he was brought in as a role player and Bownsie rates him very highly, to say he is redicously cheap does him a dis-service! he and his wife are really lovely people too.
I really don't understand some fans' love in with David Brine - I literally said nothing bad about him in that post and yet I get a massively defensive post as a reply!

How is it a disservice to say he's ridiculously cheap? It's the truth. I agree that he and his wife are great people, you'd be hard pressed to find another couple who are as genuine as them! However, just cause he's a nice guy doesn't mean we shouldn't look to upgrade on him.

Say what you like, but Brine was one of our worst forwards and I'm not just basing it on point production. Yes he was good on the PK and rarely took a penalty, but he was also very slow, and never really did anything with the puck. 6 or 7 years ago he would have been a really good signing, but I'm afraid he's on the downturn now. I also have to point out that this years team would have made ANY defensive forward look good and he won that award while playing in a junior league 12 years ago!!
...I know I'm not the only one with this opinion as there are some people within the organisation who share this feeling. Genuinely think most of the EIHL would pass up on the opportunity to sign him if he wasn't so cheap.

Love the guy to bits, but as a player we can upgrade massively.

The role players on the team were as important as the all-rounders to last season's success. Not everyone needs to be Connor McDavid. It's the depth and mix of the roster that made the difference. Brine brought many other things to the table - in a year when the pressures were so intense in a closely fought championship, maturity, leadership and experience were vital elements. He, as well as other senior players, brought that.
Cannot underestimate the value of a pk specialist and an excellent faceoff expert. Devils learnt that the previous year when they struggled to replace Matthew Myers' skills when he went to Panthers.

I know it's hard for some people to understand the concept of needing role players and what not in a TEAM, but I totally understand that not every player has to be a sniper. I really do, hence me saying that Liam Stewart would be an asset! I also agree that a faceoff expert is invaluable. I genuinely believe the season we let Matthew go back to Nottingham, was the reason we lost the league that year, with him on board it would have been a different story. Where I guess we disagree is that I feel going into the CHL and progressing as a team, upgrading on players like Brine is essential.

This guy would be an awesome prospect for us especially if we haven't signed Faryna.

Would be an insanely good signing!!
I reckon he would try and get a shot in the AHL and see what happens before coming over here but stranger things have happened.

How do we know Brine was ridiculously cheap? Because some fat estate agent (who was proved wrong about him anyway) says so? Same bloke he reckons that the devils wanted rid of Bordy after 15 minutes and reckons Fitzy is the best in the business. Simmsy knows a lot but not anywhere as much as he lets on.

If I recall correctly, Brine was a replacement for Hervato ( who pulled out last minute) and was a late add. I doubt his wage was as low as people think.

A decent 4th line forward who was good enough to play on most teams 2nd or 3rd. Played well when called upon and was an asset to the club but I think he will be upgraded on purely because the league and the club are moving onwards and Brine isnt really the man to play a part in that

It's going to be intersting to see what experienced, specialist players from higher leagues will be happy to play more limited minutes on that line if that is the case.

Why is he an 'insanely' good signing?

Really wouldnt surprise me to see Bordeleau at Sheffield next season. This is not based on anything factual just my thoughts
They have Fitgerald in that mould. He as Assistant Coach as well as a player. They will replace Desbiens with a Desbiens player who is both tough and pointscoring.

Got the impression Bordy is hoping for an opportunity with a brand new AHL team where he lives in Canada - Laval Rocket.

Isn't also the case that his young family weren't in the UK for the whole season for some reason last season? That would be a major deciding factor in what he does next season.

Bordeleau was happy to stay with Cardiff on condition he had a pay rise. He will go wherever the money is and who can blame him, its a job not a hobby.

What a crazy situation that the bouncer (Bordeleau) gets paid more than the star (Martin) I hope we find an alternative and use the left over cash to buy Joey Martin so more fire power.

No team in the league would go anywhere near Bordy. Too expensive for what he actually produces, hence the reason the Devils management wouldn't go anywhere near him again.

If that is all true then I doubt v much Steelers would offer him what he wants. Fitzgerald is signed as player/assistant coach for a further two years...no need for another Bordy type player on their rostet. They will be spend their money bringing in a player with Desbiens skills who won't cost more than the entire roster.

You are probably right but he is able to draw a crowd and how happy would steelers fans be if they feel they have pinched one of ours ( even though he isnt wanted). I wouldnt be surprised to see Rosehill at Steelers to replace Desbien. Rosehill is a terrific player who we still havent seen the best of

My source in regards to brine's wage is very reliable, and nothing to do with Simms. It's a forum, I get that there's a lot of rumours and what not on here, but its rather disrespectful to publish exact figures. I'm no big fan of Simms, but he was spot on with that one!

Johnny has put it best. I guess that's what I was trying to say, in my opinion that he would be the most obvious candidate for an upgrade. He did a job for us. Awesome guy.

Are you kidding? I would be ecstatic If we signed this guy!! He's young, plays LW/C, has size and will protect team mates. While playing a power forward role he managed to put up over a ppg in the ECHL including 34 goals. Also, look at the write up about him on eliteprospects. He would be a top top signing! If I could fly a plane I would pick him up tomorrow!!

He has been discussed on the Panthers' fan forum as the sort of young dynamic player their coach could be looking for.

No disputing his statistics at that level though. And we have seen some prolific points scorers over here who had excellent seasons at ECHL level - Jon Pelle, DAB, Matthieu Roy.

This guy is still young - he surely would be looking for a regular call up to AHL next season if no not make the jump permenantly to that level.
