Six Nations to be played behind closed doors

It was never going to effect the Six Nations, there's no way that Wales could have afforded to be the outlier among the other nations. The WAG had £3 million to compensate sports clubs in Wales for these latest restrictions. I’m sure that didn’t go far after the rugby and football clubs had their cut, probably didn’t even cover 2 weeks. Let’s hope the Devils were compensated accordingly and looking forward to seeing hockey again at IAW in 2 weeks time.
Well Cardiff City and Swansea Town had to postpone several of their games due to Covid cases in their squads so this would be the first weekend anyway.

Swansea Town?! Correct but we're talking about every sports club in Wales who attract spectators! Several clubs were ”lucky” I suppose that they had to postpone games due to being in Covid protocol, but £3 million was still never going to go very far. I was never worried about the Six Nations.

No it wasn't going to go very far - but these were never expected to be to long term restrictions.

As I said two weeks ago, the chances of the Six Nations being played behind closed doors were exceptionally low. The only way that would have happened was if cases and hospitalisations were out of control and we had ended up back in a lockdown.
And if that was the case the UK government would have had to resume Furlough funding.

LOL!
I know it's tough being a Tory at the moment but some of the spin being put on this forthcoming announcement is hilarious.
If Drakeford really was scared of the WRU then he would have started restrictions after the Boxing Day derbies and ended them on the 11th Feb the day before the first home game.
If he was mad on power he would have stuck to what he said last week and kept restrictions in place until February.

Today's announcement however will prove he is following the data, not an ideology.
We've past the peak sooner than expected and cases are dropping faster than expected.
You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, Finny, and this isn't intended as a personal attack, but your seemingly unwavering support of Drakeford, the WAG and Welsh Labour is bordering on fanatical. It's admirable that you're so clearly a passionate fan, but just a polite warning that in my experience putting your faith in a politician is like putting your faith in the Welsh weather. More often than not, it's going to let you down!

Anyhow, I read the below on another forum and it eloquently sums up the situation better than I ever could. Apologies that it isn't original, but it's a counter opinion to yours to play devils (no pun intended!) advocate here.

"Drakeford is spectacular in his unfailing ability to steadfastly refuse accepting blame or wrongdoing. He made a mistake. he jumped the gun, and Wales infection rate is higher than England's. He made no tough decisions at all, he did what comes naturally to a socialist - shutting down the economy to appear virtuous to his voter base. The end result is the poor people of Wales will suffer even worse than the English for no good reason but Drakeford's pride and vanity.

There’s nothing remarkable about this. It’s the modus operandi of Welsh Labour and has been for at least half a century. They get away with it because there is absolutely no scrutiny. The English media ignore Wales, and the Welsh media is entirely in the pocket of Welsh Labour. The list of scandals that have slipped by without notice is unending. The intricate system of patronage and control via third sector, public sector and unions ensures no internal dissent, and provides a ready chorus of support and approval when called for.

The only potential alternatives are deeply compromised. Plaid Cymru, by the utter inadequacy of their politicians and a misguided idea that they need to be more socialist than Labour to gain ground, The Tories by the fact that the Iron Lady’s mob absolutely devastated swathes of the country more effectively than the Luftwaffe (when even Tebbit thinks she went too far, it should give pause for thought).

Wales is screwed, but it’s been this way for almost 2000 years when the Romans showed up. You get used to it."

At the end of the day, opinions are like ar*e holes, we've all got one! My opinion is no more valuable than yours, and visa versa. I can see merits in all sides of the political spectrum, I just try not to be blinkered to the faults of politicians and their politics, regardless of creed.

Most importantly, at least we can agree on one thing, our love of ice hockey and The Devils! He may not admit it publicly, but at least Drakeford has finally seen the light and from the 28th we can get back to supporting the club we love.

Oh no JT666! What have you done?! Finny won’t rest until he has the last word, so I’m sure we'll get a load more posts from him and our other left wing comrades on the merits of Welsh Labour since the war. It could be a long night……I think I’ll focus on the Devils Giants thread!

Actually its spoken from someone who has many family members who work in the NHS also many friends who have also worked in the NHS. Some of which have been on the board of directors in hospitals.

So I'd leave the comedy attempt alone there pal. It doesn't suit you
I think finny has spent some time in Liverpool, they all think they're comedians up there, imo opinion all you have said is spot on, he preaches to all of us his labour drivel and has done for weeks now, you have to agree with him or he sulks, I've read enough of his drivel and bet a lot of other people on here have as well. Keep posting your thoughts as they're in tune with a lot of people on her, and before you make any assumptions mr finny I'm a sun reading conservative and proud

Has it been written by" I know lots of people in the NHS some of them in High Places " these wouldnt be people ex NHS or been sacked for corruption by any chance. If what you say is true then it could explain some of the problems in the Welsh NHS could be due to your friends sabotage/corruption?

What a bizarre generalisation. Dismissing anyone who disagrees with your point of view as corrupt. You must be a joy to be around.

Sorry life didn’t quite turn out as well as you’d hoped. Sarsons vinegar and some rock salt would be lovely for that massive chip on your shoulder.

Unfortunately, whatever your opinion on all of the above, it looks as if we're highly unlikely to see any more hockey this season. Glad we got a chunk of games in before this situation. Hopefully we'll get a full season without interruption next year.
Really pleased to have been proven wrong. Got tickets in the bag for the two games on sale. Really excited to see Coughler and Brandt play too. Let's go Devils!
